The title "Mop Girl" didnt really excite me when I first saw ads for this drama on the trains. Stumbled across a review on a readers site (cant remember who ToT) and decided to invest some time to check it out. Glad I did - Mop Girl is made of win.

Momoko (played by scrumptious Keiko Kitagawa) ends up working at Little Angels - a company that takes care of burials including cleaning up any mess after a death (usually a murder) - hence "Mop Girl."

Soon after joining Little Angels, Momoko touches an item belonging to a victim who was shot dead - the victim was somebody she knew. The next thing she knows shes back in her room and has jumped back in time. All the events happen as she previously experienced but this time round she has information about how her friend died and sets out to prevent it.

We learn that Momoko acquired this ability after she was saved from a road accident as a child - the person who saved her dies and passed along to Momoko this ability. Now, when Momoko touches an item that had great meaning to the person who died, Momoko would hear a strange ringing noise and be transported into the past (about or less than 24 hours) where she would set out to find out and save the person who got killed. We learn in EP04 that she can use this ability only once per victim...

Mop Girl is full of fun and clumsy Momoko is just adorable. Each episode does have a serious plot which is usually to find out how somebody got murdered.

Mop girl also stars Mr handsome Shosuke Tanihara who was in my other fave dramas Yama Onna Kabe Onna and Koi ni Ochitara.

These screencaps were taken from EP04 which has an otaku theme around it as you can see - incredibly moving episode and an unexpected ending.
Do give Mop Girl a whirl if you can spare the time.

On a side note, one of the best things I loved about J-dramas when I was learning Japanese back in the UK was that I got to see a lot of Japan and hear a lot of conversational Japanese that they dont really teach at school.

Previews of Mop Girl below - if I saw these earlier I would have picked up this drama straight away. The latest EP is 06 now (I think)

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.

    Thanks for the heads up on this one Danny. I passed over it at the beginning of the season, maybe I will reconsider it now. Cutie Honey is a tad bit disappointing... ^^;

I'm having a hard time keeping up with dramas this season.

Plot sounds like a bad rip-off of Tru Calling. And even Tru Calling wasn't all that.

Will probably watch it because of the cute actress. But I'll most probably settle for Photobooks of her if she goes gravure if not AV!

Question: Being that I don't live in Japan, I have the option to either purchase a really expensive satellite or d/l these shows via bittorrent et al.
However, I'd like to know the legality of downloading these shows. My ISP recently forwarded a threatening letter from BayTSP (acting on behalf of Odex Pt. Ltd.) for downloading Gundam 00. I've since ceased to d/l Gundam 00. But before I seek legal advice, I was hoping someone here could enlighten me on the legalities of d/l'ing Japanese TV shows.
    BTW, I live in Australia.

mop girls storyline sound similar to american series goes by Tru Calling. Anyone heard of it or even watched it ? Basically it the same thing the girl wake up on the same day of the accident and try to prevent it from happen. Apparently the series axed by the production house. It's a shame i know considering it a good and refreshing story. Well i wonder where i can get the sub version of this dorama hahaha !!^^

Interesting, though there is an American show like this already, Tru Calling (and i think it got canceled too), only in the case of a girl she was working at the morgue. The girl is played by Eliza Dushku. Here is the link http://imdb.com/title/tt0364817/ These two shows sound very familier :-) but I'm sure japanese version is goood.

Actually, it's more like Tru Calling, a show that was on Fox a few years back. Eliza Dushku played a girl that worked in a morgue. When she ran across a body that was murdered it would ask for her help and she would wake up in her bed a day earlier with all the knowledge of the day she had already lived through so she could help the murder victim.

Journeyman just randomly jumps back in time. Through out the episode he continues to hop forward along that persons timeline until he has helped them. And ultimately his time travel is becoming more detrimental to his life in the present.

But Mop Girl does sound like an interesting take on a common premise.
