32,263 people participated in a ranking of their most fave Mobile Suit from the first Gundam series...

First was RX-78-2 Gundam - the rest of the ranking below. Do you agree with this list?
My fave Mobile Suit of all time is probably Gundam Wing - the Endless Waltz version.

And for those who never seen the first Gundam - the OP is below.

well, the #1 ranking is no surprise. The popularity of the RX-78 is why bandai are able to churn out the 50th version of the same design year in, year out.

But I would have placed the Gouf and Dom higher!!

My favorite Gundam DESIGN is the Wing Custom Gundam from Endless waltz. Yes the OAV sucked much a$$, but the design of the mech was spectacular!

    o_O interesting...

Personally, I'd like to see a japanese poll on the most popular gundam design only. I have a soft spot for the V2 personally.

The results are pretty much what I would expect from the Japanese Gundam fans. My personal favorite MS from the first Gundam series would be the Gouf (Ramba Ral rocks!!!).

As for my all-time favorite mobile suits, here's my top 5:

    1. ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam
    2. RX-93 Nu Gundam
    3. ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom
    4. OZ-00MS2 Tallgeese II

As much as I love the original Gundam, it's clear this is just a nostalgia-fest.

Much as I love the RX-78, my favorite Gundam would be Wing Zero... the original version. I wasn't a fan of the Endless Waltz re-designs.

The Tallgeese and Deathscythe have a special place in my heart, too.

Come to think of it, all my favorite designs were from Wing.

I've been watching gundam for 8 years. I pretty much watched every series except Turn A. From all the anime and all the gunpla heres are my top five gundam.

    1. RX-79[G] Ez-8 ( best gundam imo, I just love the storyline, character, animation the love story between the main characters...oh and the gunpla it self is amazing)

    2. Shining-Gundam (influenced by all the SRW I've played lol)

    3. MK-II (I build the MK-II V.2 and watch the Zeta Movie at the same time, maybe that's why.)

    4. EX-s gundam ( I just loved the looks of this gunpla, I wish they put it into anime)

    5. Between death gundam and strike freedom, I can't decide :P

Most of the top ones don't make much sense to me cause I'm not a gundam freak but I do agree that Char's Zaku should have been higher.
Of the UC series I've only watched Zeta, and 8th MS but watching the original Gundam (dub only =( ) thanks to a friend who has the whole series.
    My favorites are:
Gundam MK II, Char's Zaku, Death scythe

Got the three Gundam movies on DVD recently and watched them all over a couple of days. I have to say, the animation does look a bit dated now but the story's excellent, even by today's standards! Very emotionally involving and charachter-central to a show where essentially the mechas are the stars. Very atmospheric too!

A lot of people have said it, but the 08th MS Team was the best series I have seen. The realistic abilities of the Mobile suits and the necessity for ground and air support makes it seem different than the "invulnerable" gundam. It seems like in every series the Gundam is Bruce Lee, and all the bad guys are crappy ninjas.. with a limp. The 08th made the Gouf seem like an amazing MS, as well enlighten the obvious contempt for the GMs. Here is my order of favorites:

    1. Red Frame Astray (I know its Seed.. but its the only one I like)

    2. RX-78-3 .. This is how the original should have looked.

3.Gouf. I dont think I need to explain this.

    4. Zaku I , a classic and much sleeker than the second version.

    5. Pretty much anything from AoZ. These are some of the best mobile suit designs I have seen. Lots of detail and no bs.

LOL for those that are wondering why Nu, Wing Zero, Ex-S, etc. aren't on the list, it's because this is a list of the favorites from First Gundam, aka Mobile Suit Gundam, aka Gundam 0079, or how I like to call it, MSG. Of course MS from Char's Counterattack, Wing, and/or Sentinel wouldn't be on there.

How is the Core Fighter even on there? It's not even a mobile suit.

After watching so many more extreme variations of Gundam from Seed & Wing other newer series, the RX-78-2 looks so plain. So I had to get a more unique version of the original if I wanted to make a kit of it (Crystal Edition).

Too many Gundams throughout the years to make a favourite list for me. However, GP02A always have been one of the best looking one for me. Exia is looking pretty good too, I wonder how they're going to "upgrade" this in the show ala Wing/Seed.

I can see the RX-78-2 as #1 only because of the nostalgia surrounding it and the influence 0079 had. You have to respect it for that classic mobile suit design.

Personally, I liked Trowa's Heavy Arms and Heavy Arms Custom from Wing.

The first thing Danny says is "32,263 people participated in a ranking of their most fave Mobile Suit from THE FIRST GUNDAM series...", so...dun dun dun...of course none of the other series' MS would be in the list. OMFG CHAR H4X! Of all the Mobile Suits, I love GMs the best. Gotta respect the gutsy nameless pilots fighting in mass-produced mobile suits. Too bad GMs are often forced to fight named characters (characters with roles), which makes such fine machines as nothing more but cannon fodders. If I have one wish, I'd want a massive engagement between GMs and Zakus. Yep, no significant or important characters involved, just unnamed pilots fighting equivalent foe. MS Igloo did come close though.

I would have liked to see the standard Zaku rank a bit higher, though with Char's custom up there I'm pretty satisfied. Gouf would have been my primary vote though, so at least that's in the top 5.

@Friendly Hellraiser: Generally the red ones are Commander variants of the normally colored ones. They have greater capabilities and are associated with more interesting personalities than the plain grunt models. Thus a higher degree of favoritism.

This article brought a tear to my eye because it reminede me when I was young. Gundam was the 1st anime I watched and Amuro Ray was mt 1st male hero. Priness Diana, Princess of Wales was my first (and female) hero. To me, nothing can kill Ray Amuro, Pilot of the legendary RX-78, except himself or god. You will always be the best Amuro. To the stars my old friend... to the stars... where we are free of our chains... and fight on in the name of freedom and peace.

Referring to seth.frostheart's post: This was one of the first shows I've seen where the "bad guys" had more variety of machines than the main character, so it's no surprise there are a lot of Zeon machines here.

Hey Danny, I was wondering. Is it true that Japanese Gundam fans prefer the Principality of Zeon over the Earth Federation? That's generally what I've heard about the Gundam fanbase in Japan, that most prefer the Zeon side to the Federation side.

As for myself, I prefer the Zeon side, but I can't stand Char Aznable. I find him terribly overrated, along with his salmon pink mobile suits.

Too bad the ranking is only from the first Gundam series.. They should have another one spanning from UC to AD..

    My top 10:
    1. Nu Gundam
    2. Strike Freedom
    3. Freedom
    4. Sazabi
    5. RX-78-2 Gundam
    6. Akatsuki
    7. Gundam Wing Zero Custom (Endless Waltz)
    8. Z Plus [C1/2] MSZ-006C1/2
    9. GM Custom
    10. GM Sniper II

Tough choice.. Aside from the ones shown in series, Gundam Unicorn's gonna rank in top 3..

The best Gundam anime of all time still has got to be the of UC 0079 One Year War, after that Gundam animes from Zeta till now has went downhill when Bandai choose to use animes to sell their plamos.

I don't mind with RX-78 being No. 1 though I wish Strike (GAT-X105) can be there in Top 20 and Char's Zaku is in No. 2 spot not in No. 3 as above, can we do a vote recount...hahahaha

Personal favourite - Strike Gundam (GAT-X105) and Sazabi (MSN-04)

    Personal favourite of Gundam anime:
    1) Gundam Seed (they have Strike Gundam and Capt. Murrue Ramius ^_^)
    2) Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory
    3) Gundam (1979, the first one) - because Char Aznabel is a cool villain leaders.

I dislike Zeong as I think its too ugly for Char Aznabel, he deserve a better MS.

It has been a while since this was posted, but I gotta comment on this ^^
Huge Gundam fan myself, you see. I have to say a think it is kinda lame that there are only Mobile Suit Gundam. I mean, come on! A Ball? That is the most ugly thing in Gundam history... Together with most Titan suits from Zeta.

I think it's hard to decide what is a cool suit. I like the Gundam Mk.II titans version for its cool colour scheme. I think that my favorite suit might be the Gundam Deathscythe Hell. God I loved Gundam Wing. It was the only gundam series to air in the Netherlands and thus my first contact with gundam. And Deathscythe Hell was cool...

I have to say that the Gundam 00 raiser gave me tears in the my eyes when I saw it vanish in thin air. Don't know why, just liked very much. Als Dynames was super cool to.

So to end this rather long story I will try to give my top 5.

    1. Deathscythe Hell, for all the childhood memories it awakens.

    2. Gundam 00 Raiser, cause it makes my skin crawl, not in a Britney Spears song way, but in the death of Bubba in Forrest Gump kind of way. And it made me almost cry. In the same way as described above.

    3. Gundam Dynames, because Lockon was the best character and the sniping was just awesome and he died and that made me cry...

    4. Gundam Seravee, also from 00. First I disliked it because of the ugly head on the back...
it turned out to be another suit! Whoa?!

    5. Turn A Gundam, because it looks totally different from anything else done in Gundam and because this serie is most of the time overlooked.

I like the RX-78 because in the original series they used the gundam to the fullest, never needing radical upgrades or fancy new weapons...no wonder it ranked as the highest among the gundams or MS rankings. The like most of the gundams (except wing, because the pilots are too emo), I think the most original concept was in stardust where the GP03 had a weapons platform that is now used in new gundam series, it is similar to the meteor system in seed and the GN arms in 00.
