Sankaku has a post up of the top 10 selling games of 2008 as follows...

1. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (Capcom/PSP)
2. Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo/DS)
3. Wii Fit (Nintendo/Wii)
4. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo/Wii)
5. Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Nintendo/Wii)
6. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (Nintendo/DS)
7. Dragon Quest 5 (DS/Square Enix)
8. Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe (Nintendo/DS)
9. Doubutsu no Mori (Animal Crossing: City Folk) (Nintendo/Wii)
10. Wii Sports (Nintendo/DS)

While Capcom nabbed the number 1 spot with Monster Hunter, Nintendo dominates the top 10.

Out of the top 10, all I have is Wii Fit ^^;
The games that I played most last year were Ninja Gaiden, MGS4, Devil May Cry, No More Heroes, and Castlevania Portrait of Ruin - still stuck on boss 8. Ugh.

What titles occupied most of your gaming time in 2008?
Have been seeing a load of PSP game commercials on TV over the new year and have been considering getting one - worth it?

Pic is from the DSi Review posted in November.
And just a quick note to say that I have not booted up the PS3 for ages and will reply to friend requests when I log on next. My PS3 ID is dannychoodotcom

    Haha - I just read the post on Sankaku moments before myself. I haven't gamed much...let alone Japanese games, so I haven't touched any of these.

    Nintendo's dominance (as well as that of portable gaming systems) amuses me greatly though - it also makes me wonder how things fare in other countries.

    For the first half of the year, it was World of Warcraft... I finally broke away from it sometime in summer.

    For a while I just didn't feel like playing any games... which is bad because there are so many games to play. Was playing Wii Fit for a while, but got bored of it. I should take it up again since I'm gaining like crazy!

    Other than that I played Sonic Chronicles for the DS, which felt like Chrono Trigger because you can combine special moves between 2 characters and it had New Game + too, but once I finished that I sold it to buy Chrono Trigger lol. So I'll have Chrono Trigger occupying my time for a while now, even though I've finished it 3 dozen times before. XD

    You have a PSN ID? :O I knew I saw a PS3 box sitting in the closet in a picture in a different post XD I'll add even though I'm guessing you don't do much online gaming though if you haven't turned it on for ages :P

    Out of those top selling games I only have Wii Fit and SSBB... haven't really played much of either in a while.

    Top games for me were MGS4 and GTA4 in the first half of the year and LittleBigPlanet and Valkyria Chronicles for the second half.

    lol, Wii Sports XD My dad absolutely LOVES Wii Sports! He will play for hours just to bowl hahaha.

    One of the most memorable games for me for the year was, oddly enough, Tales of Symphonia, mainly since I picked it up at a local Gamestop for really cheap and breezed through it during summer school. As for the games on the top list, I have Wii Fit, SSBB, and Wii Sports. I haven't been able to utilize Wii Fit as much as I'd like to, but I'll start doing so, now that our living room arrangements have been tinkered with and I have more room to play with the Wii :3

    I didn't know you had a PSN! I'll shoot you a friend request when I get on the PS3 :D

    Had being playing PSP games last year. The games are Crisis Core: FFVII, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, Macross Ace Frontier, Super Robot Taisen A Portable, Fate/Tiger Colosseum Upper and Football Manager Handheld 2009. Most of the games are fun to play.

    There are more games coming out like Dissidia: Final Fantasy (I think it's on sale in Japan already) and Shin Sangoku Musou Multi Raid.

    Did want to own a DS before because there are a lot more games than PSP. But since PSP now has more games than before, I'm happy I owned a PSP. It's worth getting one. ^^

    I'm impressed with Rhythm Tengoku Gold's success. The GameBoy Advance one is better, but was released too late.

    I think PSP is probably not needed, unless there's a game that you "need" to play, or you play a real lot and need moar.

    Yeah, PSP looks like it's worth getting, especially now since the library has grown substantially, and there is some good stuff coming up on the horizon too. I wasn't interested at first, but now there's lots of games on it I want, like Monster Hunter, Idolmaster SP, Phantasy Star Portable, DJMAX, Pangya Portable, and etc. I'm still a total DS freak... but it'll be nice to have another portable system, seeing as I hardly touch my big consoles. ^^;

    I played a lot of 360 games this year. Mostly a mix of JRPGs and western RPGs. Bought Forza, but preferred the racing in GTA4. Blew through Dawn of War, Supreme Commander, and Civ 4 too. Lots of Disgaea on the DS, and actually got back into TFC and CS on the PC thanks to some friend urging me to play again. Oh, and going through a 1 month World of Warcraft binge right now after being clean for a year.

    I have played Mario Cart, Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Super Smash Brothers Brawl...
    But I actually don't have a Wii lol, not surprising that most the top ten in japan are Nintendo lol.I bet here it's that bloody xbox or something...
    Actually Nintendo is fairly popular round here especially the Wii and all those NDS brain training things have a load of adults buying them. But imo the most respected consoles are the PS3, and annoyingly the most popular is probably the 360 due to it's cheapness (despite being crap compared to nintendo or sony)!

    The game I played that occupied the most time I surpose is Initial D Extreme Stage trying for hours to improve my time...
    Little Big Planet has been one of my faves.

    Got that on the DS. I love that ability, it's so cheap but it drains mana too quickly.

    Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, Final Fantasy XII and Disgaea 2 dominated that year for me~ ^^; I didn't have as much time for games and the like as I would have preferred last year - but maybe that will change for 2009!

    I'm having a hard time remembering all the games I played, though! 2008 felt like a few years combined into one. T3T;

    I haven't played many games this year except for World of Warcraft (everybody on base plays this/excellent money saver) and that new Castelvania ds game. Did play Ouendan 1 and 2 as well.

    For the ps2, I ordered Persona 3 (newest version), Persona 4, and Ar Tonelico II (preordered). I have such a long ps2 rpg backlog to play its not funny.

    What's up with Monster Hunter...? Is it really that nice of a game? The review sites do not seem to agree and says otherwise bout it.

    Anyway, the PSP is really worth it if you often find yourself busy or are out from your house. It comes in handy to kill boredom outside while you are waiting for stuff/queuing up at public places.

    I don't own any games from that list. But I spent most time this year playing (and completing) games like Mass Effect (really liked it, Bioware makes always great games), Dead Space (Liked it, but not as much as ME) and Prince of Persia (the 2008 one, was fun and easy).

      Talking about Mass Effect,I remember that it has 3 activation limit.
      I was waiting to upgrade my computer before using one of the activation.
      Too bad my brother took it away and installed it on his computer without asking me.And guess what? He uninstalled it after i found out. WTF Man!?
      Now it is left with only 2 activation.
      I'm hiding the game under my bed lol..

    Um, mostly I played Odin Sphere, DMC3 and FFXII. I'd like to try Ninja Gaiden as well. I love games where you have to be fast and that are challenging ^^
    Other games that I have played last year are Patapon, Crisis Core, Wipeout pulse. Phantom Brave and Shadow of Colossus, Guitar Hero.. AND! almost forgot Fallout 3! >_<

    Games that I'd like to play: MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, Wipeout HD and DMC4.. but yeah.. those are ps3 games and I don't have a ps3 so.. xD

    Oh and right now I'm playing Persona 2 ^^ will be playing persona 3 soon : ) I hope ^^;

    Of course Monster Hunter is on top. Because it is -THE BEST GAME EVAR- (I had to emphasise in caps) It's also monumentally hard, and the replay value, especially with friends, is amazing :D. Freinds and I get still get together regularly to play. Seriously eating into my WoW time D:

    I've played 3 of the games on the list, but rarely. I mostly play games on my PS3. Games include: Metal Gear Solid 4, Tomb Raider: Underworld, Little Big Planet, Eternal Sonata, Valkyria Chronicles, etc. I think Crisis Core is 2008... a bit of a disappointment for me. I enjoyed Jeanne d'Arc on the PSP though ^_^
