Shin Marunouchi Building

So we've already taken a look at two "City within a city" areas so far - Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown. Went to another one just outside Tokyo Station called Shin Marunouchi Building - a building indeed it is but a city lies within.
BTW, this image is in the wallpaper pool together with the Gurren photo of Yoko that you asked for ^^
BTW2, I'm going to be deleting images from the wallpaper pool soon so get them while you can.

A quick gander at the food stuff available. Recommend you go to the 7th floor to eat - you will see why later.

Many snazzy outlets with shop assistants trying to stop you from taking pictures - like this man approaching.

When you are tired of touring around Tokyo - stop off and spend the rest of the afternoon at Shin Marunouchi. Atmosphere is extremely relaxed with comfortable seats all over the place.

I've never been to a place in Japan where there are so many chairs about the place. Was trying to figure out their strategy all evening ^^;
There are many little corners with chairs and I'm guessing that they welcome people to come to relax or have little meetings - and then spend money at the restaurants on the way out.

There is outdoor seating on the 7th floor where this was taken. A bit chilly at this time of year but guessing great during a cool summers evening with a cuppa ginger ale.

Love this corner on the 7th floor - grab a cuppa coffee and talk about life in the corner with a great view.

Even more seating. These seats are not part of any restaurant and you can go and grab a beverage or food and munch on it anywhere. Everytime I meet up with my readers when they come to Tokyo, I always bring them to somewhere local - the next time I will take you here ^^
If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.
If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.

This place is definetly on my "To Go" List. This place seems a great meeting place and it seems very comfortable and relaxing.
I'd love to visit this place.

Same here! I really appreciate Danny's walkabouts through Tokyo, with articles like these as a result. Aside from great photography, the articles also give me inspiration for my next trip to Japan :)

Also, he ain't lying about getting lost in Tokyo station :D On my first trip there I wandered around for twenty minutes before finding the central post office (the lower, grey building on the right in the photos) and its ATMs. I'm just glad I didn't accidentally wander to the other side of the station instead ^_^;

Love the interiors of these places.
The only time I visited Tokyo Station was during my trip back home. Had to transfer to the Narita Express from there ^^;
Just a quick question, don't these commercial buildings usually have the 'No Photography or I blast you to smithereens' sign? I remember seeing them at Tokyu Hands.. or do you secretly snap some of these pictures? :p

wow, my wife would have loved this place. too bad we weren't able to stop by Roppongi Hills while we were there. will add that to the must go list when we go back to Japan. ^^ btw was wondering if you could add the "Looking at the heavens from the bottom of the building." image to the wallpaper pool as well. (^.^)b

I probably wouldn't visit Japan unless I have a local friend. The building is really nice, and the Menus are making me hungry

wow, that's very nice indeed. do they provide wifi services? with that many chairs, my gf could go shop and i won't mind sitting down with my laptop to surf the day away ^^
Great shots taken danny. Especially the photo of "Looking at the heavens from the bottom of the building"

Too many things to see in Japan... I don't think I would go to a place where I would feel small, poor, and insignificant. XD
We had 25 days to visit Japan... MAN, we couldn't even visit some pretty famous stuff... like Asakusa-Kanon temple. T_T
At least I got to go twice to Akiba. Once with the whole family, the second time alone.
For what? Of course, to see some electronics and cellphones... NOT
Anyways, I'd probably go there if I lived in Japan. The pics are beautiful Danny!
Was there a Ginza article yet? I felt soooo sooo poor there. And so common... lacking elegance and all. :P

*Gasp* That looks awesome!
One question though, where I live you can go to nice, elegant places with nice, relaxing restaurants, but they generally charge you an excesive amount of money for food (and I'm talking about tiny portions of "fancy, but not so special" dishes)
How does that work in Japan? Was the restaurant's food way more expensive in Shin Marunoichi Building?
Student/Part-timer
Wow, that is just absolutely breathtaking. I will definitely put this on a list of places to visit next time I go back to Japan, which I think is just before the 2008 Olympics because my girlfriend and I are going!

I remember this building while I was jumping off and on the stations on circle train line. Think it was the yamanote line? Anyhow, I hopped out of tokyo station and walked around taking pics of the surroundings. Truthfully I didn't know what this building was for, so didn't stay too long. Maybe I should have explored it a little more...

Wow, it looks fantastic there. The design and lighting inside the complex looks great. Nice to see lots of comfy armchairs to sit on too. Is this recently built? Every time ive been near Tokyo station on my trips, there has been a huge construction going on. I guess they finished it ^_^
Looks great there, though for actual shopping, it looks too swanky for the likes of me :-P

Me again - do you think you would be able to take pics this good on your Canon IXUS/ IXY?
Does it have a manual exposure time setting? I could do with a nice, small easy to use camera that can actually perform ok in low light.

Wow, absolutely breathtaking Danny~! Thanks for sharing, I'm planning to visit Japan (Tokyo mostly, but my friend will likely be teaching english elsewhere) beginning of April next year, have no money saved yet, but I'll be there if it's all I manage to save up for ^^;;
As for photo taking without a tripod, I've been looking up lenses to compliment the Nikon d40 I want to get one day, some of them have 'VR' (Vibration Reduction), Canon has IS (Image Stabilization). You can find out more here http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/image-stabilization.htm
Hope it interests you :3

I have to commute through the basement of that building every day to get to work. My building is the one behind it in the second picture. The underground connection from Yaesu Chikagai to the shin maru building is actually bigger than some airports, and I have to walk it every day :(
It is a very cool building, though the Marunouchi building next to it offers better views from the 35-36th floors which you can go up to for free!

This is one of the first places that I visited in Japan. It was a great place and I especially loved all the benches and chairs. I can never find a place to sit in Tokyo. Its seems like they purposely avoid putting anything you can rest on in public which is really inconvinient when you have time to kill.

However it looks too posh for the likes of me... (My rational self has spoken again...), but it would be definitely someplace to spend some hours in.

Indeed a great building where I would spend some time. Gotta say that I really like the trendy design interior of the building, they really did a great job on that. And the view from the 7th floor is very nice as well. ^^

WOW! Love the entire look of the insides of the building. This'll surely be one of the first few places I'll visit when I get to Japan. From the pictures alone, it already looks very relaxing. And the seats are all nice.
Wish we had one of these over here. ^^

Looks like a very nice place to relax if you have to do it outside the home, especially with friends. One thing I'm wondering, though, is how the average noise level is in there. No use in trying to relax and having a conversation if there's nothing but ruckus all around ^^;
Still, it's definitely on my list of places to visit.

If you have time to shoot 1.6secs just put the minium ISO (200 or less) then you'll get less noise in the pics.

How is it that I managed to completely miss this building while passing through Marunouchi in my trip to Tokyo last month? Argh!
BTW, I can still see some construction boards up in front of Tokyo Station, is renovation works still ongoing there?
