Japan Weather

The weather reporting over here is usually pretty good. When you leave for work on a sunny morning without an umbrella - and notice that everybody is carrying one - you know you're going to get drenched.
Not sure what its like now in the UK but weather reporting was pretty lousy back then - would often be caught out in the rain without a brolly.
When I lived in Seattle for five months, I noticed that very few people carried umbrellas and many would walk about in the rain. I guess it could be because most of the time it just drizzles down. I found myself leaving the brolly at home too.
If you are going to travel to Tokyo, this Yahoo weather page is pretty good - the first row is the current day - bottom row next day. Below that is the next seven days.
Whats the weather reporting like in your region?

If you have a fetish for rain, then you will want to come during the rainy season (June 8th-ish - July 20-ish) and also during typhoon season (usually end of September).

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.
If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

When it rains in my country the water comes smashing down like waterfalls. But the thing is, Nobody uses umberelas (SWE:Paraplyer) it´s like "Oh, what the heck, I´ll dry in 30 min."
Yes, we are THAT cool.

Here we use umbrellas, except the lower part of you body gets wet even if you use it, the streets looks like rivers.

Weather in Phoenix.... hot and sunny, pretty much always. It may rain 3 or 4 times a year if we're lucky.

Ive never understood the japanese people's reliance on umbrellas. What with them being innovators and the developers of new technologies, i would have thought they would ditch cumbersome things in favour of waterproof jackets, hats or hoods. They would save a lot more space, which is useful in congested places (like tokyo!), theyre always with you, and dont need to be replaced.
In the UK, outside of cities and towns, umbrellas are kind of considered 'not manly'. Many people would prefer to just get wet than walk around with an umbrella. Its different in cities like birmingham though.

The acccuweather widget is spot on. Chicago gets a full range weather. Usually it's windy here but I love it.

Looks like Shibuya.
I remember grabbing an umbrella from Shibuya station for about 500yen. They have a store set up and people just pay and go!
(P.S Umbrallas are real cheap in Japan and people seem to leave them lying around)

I find the weather reports around me are fairly accurate. Most people don't seem to use umbrellas, either. In FL, when it rains, it can be pouring in one area, and yet 50 ft away (~15 meters), it is perfectly dry. Usually it starts and stops very suddenly, so most don't bother with umbrellas unless it's during the rainy season.

Here in the Vancouver region of Canada, the weather changes so quickly, no one would even bother to listen the weather report... For example if the weather man/women say that its going to be sunny tomorrow, there is a 70% chance that rain is going to be pouring don on you when you step out of your door to go to school...

The UK had one of the coldest and wettest summer this year. Then came the floods~
In London, rain kinda sucks. Everyone gets wet, then they travel in the tube! It literally becomes a sauna (poor me ;_;).

Texas and Louisiana weather is fairly unpredictable. We'll have a forecast for perfectly sunny skies then around noon time we'll get 2 inches of rain from a quick moving thunderstorm. Then 15 minutes later it will be sunny again.
And then there are the Tornadoes. I've always debated about getting a tornado shelter but haven't followed through since I've walked away from a half dozen in my life. I've been lucky in that regard.

There is an old axiom about weather and Michigan. If you don't like it, wait a minute and it will change. Weather report pretty much the same. ^^;
My fiancee still looks at people like they are crazy when they go out into the rain without an umbrella. Something a friend and her spent several minutes talking about one day in Osaka. ^^;
I do enjoy the rain. Just can't stand the humidity that comes with it during the rainy season. Something I hated about Florida as well.

Weather in the united kingdom is just plain cold. I never trust the weather reports, they all lies -_-. One time they say its not going to rain, next day, looked at the reports again, still say no rain. I go outside and it started raining as i walk to college. Summer weather was really random, raining then sunny then raining so on. I guess that what people get from global warming.

Weather here is nice, usually sunny. Lately its been clouds and light showers though. But it's nothing compared to one day where I awoke to look out to what had once been a golf course had become a lake lol.

Living in Melbourne atm, city of 4 seasons. It could get windy, hot (up to 35 degree) and raining at the same time. I don't bother checking up weather forecast.

I live in Arizona, the weather is always the same.. sunny.. and dry. Its a desert (the greenest in the world), so it rarely rains. We do get a monsoon season, where it rains for .. ten minutes and we get 120mph winds.

It's either rain, heavy rain, rain with thunderstorms or no rain at all here. so yeah, they're pretty accurate.

The weather has finally turned cold here in the NorthEast, had to turn the heat on today in the house.
We've just got past about 3 or 4 days of straight rain. Can't say things grind to a halt here when it rains. Though, the number of car accidents here tend to increase when it rains as everyone puts the pedal to the floor and jumps to light speed when it rains. I never understood this?
When it rains or snows, people have a strange compulsion to drive faster? This happen to anyone else?
Slacker
jojo - I don't think it's people are driving faster, it's just many are driving slower but the people that drive at their usual pace seem faster considering the condition. And people that usually think others are driving faster are usually the ones that slowed down.. and well just in general have a knack for spotting these things to criticize about.
BTW it's like that in Toronto too haha.

during the past few weeks, weather has been acting very weird. sometimes we have high hot temperatures during the rainy season which is very weird since back then we have cold temperatures during the rainy seasons

Surprizingly good, considering this is Brazil and all.
I travel every 2 weeks for my game development course across the state, and I always use the local weather report to know what's going on... not only rain-wise but temperature-wise too.
Not always spot-on, but at least very close to it.

ah, the good old rainy season in japan. "man says rainy season has started -> umbrellas come out. Man says rainy season is over -> umbrellas left behind!"
Then again, it never really rains in the far east, they just pour!!
Thankfully I missed the rainy season on my one trip to Japan all those years ago. Had to contend with the hot and humid japanese summer instead...

Weather reporting here is pretty average. Usually I just look up at the sky before I head out to see if it'll rain later on...much better than relying on the weather man XD
Love those see-through umbrellas btw.
WOot I love the rain. In Ohio we only have a few good storms the rest are like 2 minutes of it poring then its sunny.

Here, weather predictions are pretty exact (got to be sure about those blizzards, right? I'm not ready for this winter yet!).
I don't watch TV anymore, so maybe should I go for the website of some weather channel I know.
Yeah, I should do that now and check up the weather and temperature regularly so I don't end struck with the flu or turn into some live snowman in the next weeks/months.

I use the JMA's site because my town/area is so unimportant, no one has the weather for it. I end up looking at the nearest 2 cities and averaging it to get an idea of what my weather will be like. The temperature is pretty accurate but the weather isn't because the mountains can trap the rain.

It's been a really wet summer this year in the south east of blighty, which i don't mind as a hate hot weather. Sky news give very good weather forcasts so you can normally leave home preparedfor the day ahead.

Weather reports I've seen vary so much you wonder if they've got the right country. Its true no-one here carries a brolly, in fact they don't even have anything like a raincoat - surprising considering how much it rains... when in Japan I carry a folding umbrella because when it rains, it /rains/, and no clothing is going to protect you...

The one thing I'm not looking forward to in Japan is the rain. But I guess it rains everywhere. Certainly no shortage of rain in the UK. I don't really watch reports or anything, just if it's the season I make sure to wear something with a hood so if I get caught atleast my hair stays nice and dry (that's all that's important really. A bit of rain won't melt me but it will mess up my hair) I'd love to have one of those clear and cheap umbrella's you get in Tokyo :P
Weather reports here are really good thanks to the technology the TV stations have. Unfortunately the weathermen all suck. 1 hates nice weather and gets excited only if there is a giant storm or crappy weather coming. The other station, the guy's like a used car salesman both in appearance and demure, and 3rd station the guys like a auctioneer talking so fast it might as well be in Japanese :)

Used to be pretty bad, but now the predictions are getting better.
I guess this is a worldwide phenomena, since the evolution of weather prediction affected the whole world.
You know, satellite pictures and stuff.
I usually take my umbrella with me in cloudy days, but sometimes I wonder if it's really worth it.
The case is the exact opposite from what Danny described for Seattle... here where I live, it usually pours down a lot and the rain usually comes with strong winds.
So it's useless to carry an umbrella because you'll end up soaked anyways...

During days with intense sunlight some people around here carry umbrellas for the shade. It's a good idea but a bit out of the ordinary.

In Japan, I will bring an umbrella if it looks like rain cause I don't like to get everything in the store or on the train wet and bother other people. Sometimes its too darn windy to use an umbrella. For those days I'll try and stay on base. American's do not use umbrellas very often and I never did. When in Rome...
For weather, I usually go to weathercity.com/jp or something like that. I use google sometimes as well. They are generally fairly accurate 2 days ahead.

we dont really use umbrellas here when it is raining, we just run about in the rain.

When I first moved to SoCal I noticed....
1) A light drizzle rates apparently Team Coveragee,
2) There is no end to the whining about ANY moisture falling from the sky,
3) Even 5 minutes of sprinkles screws up traffic for the rest of the day
4) Southern Californians CAN drive in the rain, it's the new residents who came from out of state which fail to realize that, the rain brings up ALL the oil and grease collected on the roads and they can't expect to stop very easily.
