A sample of Japanese folks took a survey to establish what their browser home page was.
The results were as follows.

MSN, Yahoo, other portal site 42.2% Google, other search engine page 26.5% Work web page 18.9% Microsoft, other OS maker’s home apge 2.2% News site home page 1.6% Provider’s web page 1.6% Related company, organisation home page 1.1% Hotmail, Gmail, other web mail page 1.1% PC maker’s home page 0.5% Shopping site home page 0.5% Newspaper home page 0.5% Customer web page 0.0% Opera, Firefox, other browser home page 0.0% Other 3.2%
I currently leave mine on the default firefox Japanese Google search.
I know some of you have dannychoo.com as your default home page (thank you ^^;) and was thinking of making something a bit more streamlined for you folks.
What do you have as your default home page?

Data from What Japan Thinks.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

This item was posted in the Japan category. You can see more of everything else or subscribe via RSS instead.

I wonder if this is an indicator of how many Japanese browser users use Firefox or other alternative browsers like Opera versus default IE or something based on the poll of their homepage content or not? i.e.> by looking at amount who claim to use opensourced browser homepages as their startpage for the number of users or lack thereof rather who commented as having firefox or opera portal or startpage as their browser home page or were some or many of those Google user actually firefox users who landed on Google page as homepage by default of use of Firefox perhaps?

apparently, a sarcasmic "PS3 has no games, no games, no games" when the article title was "kaz hirai says ps3 needs games, games, games" or something like is a good reason for a ban.

Safari is my default browser and I have it set to just open a blank page, I don't like having it spend time to load a page because it slows down moving to other sites and opening other tabs.
I find it kind of funny that the top two homepage setups are pages I never visit, since I use the google search bar or Quicksilver to initiate all my searches and never found a use for portal sites.

If I open the browser up and some other site doesn't come up, I can't tell if it's them or me. But if Google doesn't come up, I know the problem's on my end. i have so many bookmarks, so i'm happier with opening my browser faster by having it load a simple clean search engine page like google.

though, MOST of the time i'm repoening like 10 saved tabs ;o

I use Google as my homepage. A little while back I tried using the personalized variant of Google for my homepage, but it loaded too slow and I didn't have anything very important to display there either. I also have been considering setting a black page as my homepage to speed up opening the browser.

My homepage is Yahoo, it has decent news coverage and I love using its different functions (for example, using "Answers" to find solutions to obscure questions)... that and I'm use to the layout, so its partially out of old habit. >_<

If i need the internet its for Google so mine set as google. (even though i have a google search bar on the top right, meh)
