Life after Death
The findings show that the reason could be because that youngsters are having less opportunity to deal with a death in the family or because of console games.
A similar survey was carried out on primary school students and the findings show that most of the students who replied "I will come back to life" also gamed for more than 3 hours per day.
I personally wouldn't want to live forever. While I plan for about 80 years, I'm prepared to go any time as we never know when we are going to die.
When I say "prepared", I mean that I am focused on doing everything possible so that I don't die regretting anything. I remember at one point in life where I used to wait for things to happen and then realized that I'm the only one who can change things.
I write about my concept of life in this article and how one should have destinations in this article. I'm constantly evaluating my destinations and where I currently am to make sure that if I die tomorrow, I don't go "darn! I wish I'd done blah" because its too late by then.

Forever as an option, yes. I'd love to have the option to live forever. Or just choose when to die.
But that's of course, if I could live as an adult for a long time before getting old.
I think all "stages" of life are important. But I don't think it would be nice to live in a 90yr old body for 500 years.
Life is still too short. Too many things to see and learn, few time.
I'd like a life span to at least know the whole world... that would be great.

Live forever you say?
Well, it has its pros and cons.
Living long enough helps you gain lots of knowledge, but it depends on how you will use it. Good? Evil?
The other point is that you endlessly see others die while you remain the same and keep on going and probably still have to fill basic needs (food, drink, sleep, etc. Maslow anyone?). In that case it is not good to get attached to someone...
This survey doesn't surprise me as adolescents believe quite anything and think they are quite invincible. It's only when they run into walls and hurt themselves that they understand that life is a harsh voyage and that you have to adapt to things or perish.
So yeah, as long as you are aware of yourself, the world and wish to change it for the better (but also striving for that to happen) and finally taking things with relativism, it should be okay.

I think I would like to live a longer time, though forever might not be so good...unless I can be still active and not a vegetable when I'm 200 years old lol. I personally don't have a religion but I wouldn't mind being reborn with a clean slate of mind and body.

Now imagine you have no time holding you back. The goals you can set for yourself would be ones you'd be incapable of fulfilling prior to immortality. Learning 15 languages, traveling to 100 countries and learning their history, becoming a master of programming, drawing. This could all be accomplished. A normal human has to make compromises and choose a path, choose skills to learn, etc. Even those amongst us who have fulfilled human potential to just about the fullest degree (think Ben Franklin, one the most amazing humans to ever grace this Earth), would pale in comparison to what an immortal could achieve.
I fully believe when we die, something will steal our bodies nutrients and we'll become one with the Earth again. Since we are all essentially the universe trying to understand itself, i see no promised land or fairy tale awaiting. I don't need a story to instill hope in me. I have experienced the beauty of living and that is enough to keep going regardless of what the end may bring.

I think this is one of those cases where you would think it was great to live eternally. In reality? The only reason we enjoy life so much and accomplish so much is that we have a short time to live. If our life spans were infinite then we would be in no hurry to do anything.. theres always time. The draw back is, we dont care as much to what happens to the next generation, since we wont have to be around to deal with it. Oh, future generations, you are welcome for all the cool stuff we have invented for you.

Sorry, gotta disagree here. Not all cultures fear death and make attempts to prolong life. Death is as natural as sleeping in some cultures (both present and past)

i used to be afraid of death. the thought of closing my eyes and leaving everything behind terrifies me.
but i came to realise this is because i'm still young. there's still lots of things to do, see and learn.

i believe in reincarnation and i would love as much as the next guy immortality and eternal youth but i'd eventually get bored. i'd rather have a long life and get things that i always wanted and never regret of anything when death fetches me for the other side...
at my age, i have chosen the path that i want to take but it's a very rocky and difficult road to travel but this part of the bargain/package in life ^__^

I somewhat doubt, given eternal youth as well as eternal life, that people would get particularly bored. People will always come up with new ways to entertain themselves, and if it ever came to everything having been done, you could start again as it would take a insane amount of time to do everything physically and intellectually possible. Anyways, if you live 'forever' technologically, you'll eventually die from the heat death of the universe or something. If the chance comes by, i'll live as long as possible

I am really glad I came across this article, as I have fairly recently (just under a year ago) lost my mom to death. And I do agree with what you said in this article about living life everyday and doing everything you have always wanted to do so there are no regrets when your time does come. I am working on that right now in my life. As for living forever, I'd like to take a shot at it.
Well I'd sure take the immortal path. Here is why:
1. People complain about losing friends/lovers/family. This is a normal part of life, and the older one is the higher the chance that everyone they knew from their youth is dead. We always make more friends, find new lovers, and continue forward, so i don't see the issue here.
2. The biggest attraction here to me is knowledge. Consider the mastery you could develop in all areas of life. You could choose any career or path and have no regrets, because if you don't like something, you can just change it. You would have the time to travel to every country in the world and learn its' history and culture. If one was business oriented (not I) they could amass a sizable wealth and use it to make life better for all of the world.
I know i would just collect thousands of books, articles, images, songs, and have a giant database/library of everything i could imagine. I'd master a number of different instruments. I'd spend time learning and creating. I don't see how someone could turn this offer down personally. If the answer is "i'd be bored" or "lonely" well then you don't deserve to have such a gift, as you clearly have issues with your limited life if you are bored and lonely all the time.
And finally, after countless years of studying, collecting, and learning, I would publish a giant history of the world. Covering everything from the beginning of the universe, to specific info about individuals, wars, discoveries, all the pain and suffering, happiness, all the science, art, and life that had been recorded.
Being able to see the applied technology 50 years from now and see how it will shape our soon to be global government/economy. New discoveries in science that we can only dream about. The possibility of colonizing space, harnessing new forms of energy, creating, building, understanding!!!!! Please tell me how this can be a bad thing?
After reading all the comments, i don't understand people's positions on this.
1.Some seem to turn it down because of getting old and ragged. I assume immortality means my body won't age. If it did that wouldn't make sense.
2. Others want to accomplish what they had set out for them and turn it down based on that. As if they planned out a life and once they hit X amount of goals it is all over, and being offered endless life is too much to handle...Hell i could think of stuff to do nonstop for the first couple hundred years. I can only guess these folks haven't taken the proper amount of time to fully understand the size of the world and all that it has to offer. Or maybe i'm just to fascinated with every aspect of our world, and I'm the weird one.
And no reasoning for Danny's choice of nay on the immortality? I'm curious.
