Another anime I've added to my watch list for now is ef a tale of memories which started to air last Saturday - EP 2 is on today.

This is another eroge which has made the transition over to the anime world. Have not played the eroge but seen some screen shots which caused a nosebleed.

Subculture has the full write up of the anime and here are just a few of my initial impressions.

  • Felt like I was watching some sort of theatrical musical what with the abstract scenes. Not a bad thing - just very different.
  • Girls are nice but not as nicely drawn as in the eroge.
  • Not much going on in the first EP apart from character introduction. Cant really tell how the story is going to unfold. Hope it doesn't end up being another Nice Boat.
  • Background artwork is gorgeous - I believe Makoto Shinkai was involved in production somehow?
  • Folks who have a fetish for girls with patches over one eye will like this one ^^;
The OP and ED is quite crap so watch the Prologue below instead.
Clip from the eroge below. Animation will blow you away.
And here are my ef goodies which I somehow have managed to acquire over time ^^;
And below are screenshots from the Prologue which got lost from a post in the previous server crash.

Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.

    Hmm, interesting but not in my watchlist. The eroge version should be more superior than the anime version, for obvious reasons.

    The ending screen shots look like something from a ero game at least lol. Though this isn't on my watch list, but if I hear something about a nice boat then maybe I might take a look ;p.

    Makoto Shinkai ?!?!

    Downloading as I type. I know some one has asked or will so... try the anime treehouse.com fansub search engine if your looking for this or any of the other anime Danny has on his site. It gets updated hourly with fansub download links.

    it's a confusing start from the first episode.. anyway, it should proved to be quite a good production from the popularity i guess..

    I thought it was interesting and beautiful. Characters do feel sorta ethereal and out of there, so to speak but they do set a good atmosphere at least.

    A lot of people are complaining about the style SHAFT is using on this show, but I'm loving it. Makoto Shinkai was certainly involved in the production for the game, but I don't think he's actually involved in the anime. :S

    Oh, and I'm humbled that you would mention my site Danny.. x)

    I've only seen the first EP so far, but it looks great! Nice animation, nice characters nice writing--everything leads me to believe this could be another great eroge conversion. ^_^

    I'm having problems watching anime/series/movies... lack of time.
    That's because I'm back to gaming, and it's consuming all my free time.

    But I liked the trailer. Although the art is awesome, I'm guessing the storyline will go along with other erogames adaptations...

    Romance and drama, isn't it? Kanon/Air style?

    I'll try it anyways. But what really got my attention was the video from the eroge... though I'm not much into those.

    If you like the directorial stylings of ef, I suggest you check you Tsukuyomi Moon Phase, or any other Akiyuki Shinbo work. While Shinbo didn't direct ef, he supervised it so there is a lot of his influence.

    saw this before i saw [kino no tabi]. loved both series. reason i bring up [kino no tabi] is because it reminded me of [ef tale of memories]. the style of the show is definitely not for everyone though but i believe it is at perfection in the area it belongs to.
