Gundam 00 started to air last night on MBS taking the prime time 6PM slot. So how was it?

I wont go into detail about the plot because Random Curiosity has written up a ton on the first EP bit I will give you my 3 yen.

  • Well animated but not the best I've seen.
  • First EP was easy to follow. The most confusing EP1 I've ever seen was Wings of Rean.
  • No moe characters that make you go phwaor!
  • Loads of bishonen for the ladies and yaoi fans.
  • Mobile suits look better than my first impressions a while ago.
  • Crap ED. Not too keen on the OP song either.
  • The bad guys as with all Gundam series die easily.
Will definitely stay on my watch list for now. EP and OD below.

Why can't we have manly character design in Gundam spinoffs? Nonetheless, I might give this one a try.

I spent the last half hour trying to find this to download, but none of them were working. (I hate having such crap internet) Even though I don't understand Japanese at all, I still desperately want to see this.

From all that I've heard, this Gundam sounds great. I was never really able to get into Gundam Seed, so I'm glad there's a fresh new series I can watch.

i heard gundam 00 is the first gundam series to be in HD. from the various pictures and trailers i see, i got to say the quality is top-notch. ^^

i always find that the Seed and Destiny series looks too cartoony.

Ugh! The OP and ED sucks!

I'm a major Gundam Fan but this doesn't seem like a good watch like the original Seed was (Seed Destiny sucked too).

Hopefully they have a good story to back this show. Maybe I'll pick it up then.

What's the orange Haro doing there? Is it acting like an R2 Unit?

Seems like some people have already started to conclude that it'll be bad.

Well, I might beg to differ as its still to early to jump into conclusions. Eitherway I have to agree, 00 doesn't have a good OP or ED to begin with but its still refreshing nevertheless.

Lemme preface my comments about Gundam 00's first episode by saying:

    A) I was actually almost 100% content with the way SEED Destiny turned out
    &
    B) I'm more of an AU Gundam fan than a UC Gundam fan.

That being said, I was thoroughly impressed with Gundam 00's first episode. The animation was really fluid and the action scenes were all well done. I love all the character and mech designs. I liked the opening song, but I was a fan of L'arc En Ciel before this so it's a given I'd like it. I'm not a fan of the ending song though. I've got really high expectations for this series, and I have a feeling it will be one of my favorite Gundam series when it's all said and done. It just sucks that after 25 episodes it's going to take a break.

To me it doesen't even look like Gundam. I liked the cosmic era, but I really miss Universal Century and Gundam Wing. I think the designs and style are too out-there, it doesen't like like the "real-robot" genre anymore. The animaton is nice, but everything looks more like Code Geass or Eruka 7 or something...

I loved the BGMs, tired of the airy fairy stuff that SEED was having, this has a lot more "militaristic" drummings and I like it.

"Loads of bishonen for the ladies and yaoi fans."

Sigh, I am not a big fan of all the "cutsy" guys and girls in the recent Gundam Anime series over the past couple of years, maybe it is to cater to female viewers? I don't know and really I have no idea, but the art style of the characters is totally throwing me off of the entire series.

I like the mecha designs though, they seem to simplified but I won't judge 'em as usually the designs get more thorough through a series.

Sadly Gundam 00 will not be on my watch list, mainly in part due to the way the characters are drawn. The big ass badguy has to be tough, possibly ugly, but tough and self-centered, NOT tough, self centered and cute. TAKE OUT THE CUTE ELEMENT PLEASE.

    @Trent,
That's it! That's why I thought the show felt familiar. It did remind of Code Geass. Despite that, it wasn't bad and it looked good. But I'll need to watch a few more episodes before I'll make up my mind.

Eh, who am I kidding, I'll watch it, I haven't had a Gundam fix in alooooong time. Plus, there isn't much on TV that interests me this season. (-_^)

Yea the ED song is at best. But the animation looks like they ran out of budget and had to come up with it on the cheap.

    might be wrong

I'm pumped. The first episode has whet my appetite. Coincidentally it arrived at an excellent time to replace Gurren Lagann.

Initially seeing the Gundam's designs made me confused, but actually having them in action moves me towards curiosity on the technology.

The character designs isn't that significantly drastic to me as it would be for others. It is fine as long as there isn't a Relena Peacecraft or Lacus Clyne (not that I didn't enjoy both of their graceful presence to the series).

As for the characters' personalities they unfortunately for the first episode appear to fall in the 'typical' & 'cliche' category. I am not impressed.

Animation is smooth and tasteful as how first opening episodes for any Gundam series should be.

I agree with the comment on the BGM; it contains more of a serious feel and less J-pop'ish.

I detest hearing L'arc en Ciel. I want Aya Kamiki instead.

The overall plot could be interesting with the multiple amount of cast with this new series. I'll watch this regardless of how bad it will become. Gundam has never let me down for the exception of V, Turn-A, and partial Seedage.

Yeah I agree with you Danny, the gundams look better than we expected the green one really reminds me of Buster from Seed. One thing I found weird in the first episode is that most of the pilots looked like girls, especially the one with purple hair, I was like, that is a girl but then when it started talking it was a man O_O lol. Oh and Setsuna (Exia pilot) reminds me a lot of Heero from Wing

@hendrik - There are a lot of people involved in the mech design this time around:

Hitoshi Fukuchi (Cassharn, Double Fake: Under the Gundam, Gin-iro no Olynsis)
Kanetake Ebikawa (Full Metal Panic, Vandread)
    Kenji Teraoka (Code Geass, GITS:SAC)
Kunio Okawara (We all know what he's done)
Seiichi Nakatani (animation director in Stargazer)
Takayuki Nanase (Toward the Terra, Zegapain)

There are like 4 different fansubs out of the first Gundam 00 series! Has any one seen Blue Drop? It looks like fun, is there a new season starting already in Japan? I didn't expect to see any new series so soon.

I think the 1st ep turned out pretty ok. I had an open mind going into the first episode, I saw that there were some nice Gundam designs, the character designs are different (thank god, tired of seeing the same artist everywhere), even though they are bishounen it doesn't bother me that much.
Overall the quality was pretty much consistent and the story built up at a nice pace throwing some side characters here and there for a small introduction.

Gundam 00 will stay on my watchlist for now.
On a side note has anyone seen Blue Drop? I haven't looked up info for a lot of the fall series cause I didn't think it'd come so soon.

I've seen both Nyoro~n and GundamS.net, and I'll say Nyoro~n's are a lot better. They got most of the names right, and it looked like they actually put a lot of effort into it, unlike GundamS.net's which seemed like a total rush job. I still think the subs could be done a little better though. I'm going to check out any and every groups' episode 1 to see which one does the best job and sticking with that group for the duration of at least the first half of Gundam 00. Who knows? After the break at episode 25, more groups might try and pick it up.

This will be the first gundam series I watch completely... haven't seen any other, though I watched the first episode of SEED never got hooked in it.

I pretty much like everything in this series, but it's kind of weird that all the guys have a girly look... but as long as it turn out to be a good series, don't care.

    Howdy!!

I bought the Gundam Dynames, and it thought it was very cool. The only thing I disliked about the kit was the soft plastic that goes into the front legs and back of the arms. Very annoying when trying to paint and get back into position.

Oh, as for the anime, well from what ive seen it looks decent.

    Cheers!!!

after seeing all the 25 episodes...i think the story is too short,no mind blowing events, twist or surprises..or somewhat kind a bit of lacking in some elements, the story is fast paced so is the battle, then gundams were not great as the late gundams..umm im trying to guess if this has a 2nd season or something hte story seems never end in that last EP

It's called a cliffhanger duh...so it's not meant end with that episode. I thought it was really good tbf, and it's different. No point in making the same stuff something like SEED again just because that was brilliant. Can't wait to watch S2 ^^
