Japan Roadworks

Apart from being surrounded by otaku culture and being able to get Dengeki Hime at my local shopping mall, one of the things I really appreciate about Japan is the way the Japanese schedule the road works.
This sign says that the work will finish on the 26th of September and take place between 8PM and 6AM. They started on the night of the 25th and were nowhere to be seen the next day.

Most of the road works seem to take place at night rather than during peak hours as I experienced back in the UK. Road works in London just went on forever. Was so common to see a hole in the road (like this) with nobody around. A look in the hole and you would most often see traffic cones, newspaper and if you are lucky some fish n chips.

Below: At all road works, you will see a chap in a hard hat with a mini light saber to warn and guide pedestrians. They usualy carry one saber but it looks like this guy was a Darth Maul fan.

Below: And where they dont have humans, they have objects in the shape of humans waving their hand.
Below: More road works at night. Road works do happen by day too but are *usually* organized to cause as less congestion as possible.
All photos apart from my watermarked one taken from this search query at Flickr. Check out the link to see more great shots from the owners.
