YouTube Live Tokyo was just awesome. The amount of new comrades I made in a single day was staggering. Went along with a new pack of 100 name cards and came back with 3 left.

Met up with a load of comrades who I used to work with at Microsoft who are now at Google too - everybody seems *much* more happier ^^;

Also met a load of TV folks - dc.com on Japanese TV again soon. You voted for stormtroopers and high school girls - you are going to get it!

Me and the lovely Maginbon (here burogu here) back stage.
And please - Magibon gets a load of hate messages already so folks who are thinking of leaving snide remarkes about her should go read this instead.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

While it isn't nice to say mean things, watch her videos and it will make more sense. She doesn't even really anything, just tries to look cute/Japanese. I would never imagine send her hate messages, but I don't understand her fame. I wish I could do nothing but look cute into a camera using the myspace angle and get sent to Japan to events and appear on TV :(

It's like, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all. So while I don't personally like/care about/for/whatever she does, I don't understand people who feel the need to tell everybody in the world and especially to send hate mail/messages/comments to the person themself. Don't like it? Don't watch it. That's what I do.

As the saying goes, "To be known is to be hated".

That's something you have to deal with when you want exposure. There will always be someone out there wanting you to trip and fall. Sadly for people like that, they fell flat on their face and never got back up.

              haha nice!

I think a lot of it is because many fans felt betrayed by her pointing the camera at herself from a weird angle that gave her face that appealing look that attracted many in the first place. (referencing to the "troll'd" picture) However, I think that's awesome!!!! More power to her! Haha it's funny but her tactic is definitely working and now she's a success! I guess in this situation it's not how you climb up the hill it's the fact that you made it that matters. 8D

In regards to Magibon... I am absolutely floored by the amount of mean/hate comments she gets on her videos on Youtube. It's really pathetic to think that so many people are willing to say such things for their own personal satisfaction.

I agree that all who have left or feel the need to leave these terrible comments should read Danny's hater post. Jealousy is an ugly emotion, isn't it?

Dude, I'm not surprised. Humans tend to hate things that are better than them like Nietzsche said. Hell, I'm not even immune--I hate and ridicule things that are popular sometimes until I give them a proper chance (this is why I don't still hate Gundam 00 and Gurren Lagann). Personally, I still don't get the whole staring into the camera for an entire vlog thing, but I imagine it's kinda neat sometimes I guess. *shrugs*

I thought the idea of blogging and twitter was odd, but I now see myself doing it a few years after each concept was started. Nothing wrong with video blogs, since I personally subscribe to the one the Kremlin is doing. Most of the things I see about her, just random 4chan trolling and all of that stuff.

I don't really know if there is anything to "get" and maybe it just confuses people to the point of making such comments. But, at the end of the day, every person that watches it that doesn't like it, and every comment, be it positive or negative fuels the fire. It's funny to me that people that hate it so much keep contributing to making it more and more popular and higher in the view/comment rankings.

Personally, I only watched a couple of her videos, and it's not really my thing. It certainly doesn't anger me to see, though. I'm totally with you on this one.

Good point. She became famous even BEFORE she started speaking in Japanese.

It did help her to get the myth created that she was a Japanese teen and that certainly helped on the fame. I don't think she would have made it to Japan if she didn't speak Japanese.

I agree. I once read comments for Ilvan polkka (which is in Finnish) and 3 people "knew" claimed to be able to understand the song. Each of them claimed a different language though and none of them were Finnish (none of them were close to Finnish or each other either). How can people even say they understand the text in a song when they can't tell which language it is?
Also this song is commonly referred to as Levan even though it's spelled "Ievan" (or "ievan" in lowercase)
When people talk on this level, then I guess that you should expect anything.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1USZ-Ll47e4 <--- in case you don't know this song. I guess it's recommended anyway since it uses ALL of the vocaloids =D

Never heard about Magibon before. I guess I shouldn't be surprised about anything on the internet but still this one took me by surprise. I mean a woman tests her webcam and all of a sudden millions of people watch her just sitting there saying nothing o_O

I think the hatemail to her is misguided. Not only is hatemail by itself quite stupid, it's also aimed at a person making the videos that people request. She is actually a nice young woman acting on suddenly gained fame. What I wonder more about is all the people watching her... I mean even though she is cute and all, shouldn't there be more interesting things to do than to watch her just watching into the camera? Can anybody explain why people want to watch ALL her videos? (from what I have seen so far, it's like see one and you have seen them all)

I understand constructive critisism, but hate mail/messages is just that: hate for no reason. If you hate a movie on youtube, then just leave it ^^

Come to think of it I guess I once wrote something people could see as a hate message. It was about a movie where a guy gets killed in a traffic accident because somebody else runs a red light. I wrote that I think it's poor judgement to laugh at it and it shouldn't be considered entertainment. Maybe I should have reported the movie instead.

    http://www.dannychoo.com/adp/eng/1615/Toyosu+Photo+Walk.html
The article states reasons on why people do this sort of thing. It just goes to show how dumb some people can be. If someone is doing well, why do you have to go and make them feel bad? I mean, you wouldn't want that kind of thing, so why would they (or in this case, Magibon)?

I think the main reason why she's hated so much is because she earned her internet fame by posing as someone she's not (A loli of half-japanese decent). I guess some people are just jealous, but I also believe that most of the haters out there are just pissed off that Magibon turned out to be the exact opposite of what they expected.

    I remember Magibon! She could pull off some serious fortune-telling with eyes like that! They play with your mind so much I reckon anyone would be captivated ^^;

I don't recall seeing Magibon vids first hand, but I have seen her mentioned on blogs before. Some nice, some not so nice. Such is the nature of the internet.

Uhhh... Is this one of those 'hate' things..? I was pretty freaked by this. According to the forum on the website the guy made it for an art project and claimed he was within the law to use Magibon's videos, because she posted them in the public domain... Is this right? I learn something new every day...

    *WARNING*: Disturbing, psychological website.

The first time I had ever heard of her, I really disliked her, her staring into the camera somewhat creeps me out. Also, her pretending/wanting to be Japanese, I see as a bit stupid. However, when she's not starring into the camera like that, she does look pretty cute, and so I'm glad to see this, as now I've seen a different side of her.

methinks magibon is oh-so-adorable~ but the way she stares at the cam can be quite unnerving (to me at least) sometimes ^^; she could easily pass off as a half japanese imo.

Lol when a girl (in this case, Magibon) posts pictures that are nicely taken, people says that she's tricking people by using subtle angles and whatever, but amazing is, when the same girl gets badly taken photos (bad angles and such), no one would be fair enough to say "she's not that bad, it's just the photo tricked us by being badly taken". :P

Well, personally I think that a cute girl just doing j-style wannabe kawaii expression in front of a cam is boring/uninteresting, but I can't really understand why the big hate or critics towards her. ^_~; I mean, what does it matter if a girl is being famous like that or not?? XP
