Washable mouse spotted at Changi airport in Singapore. I can only think of one use case for a washable mouse - for folks who take good care of their health in front of the computer?

well I'm the type of human that easily sweat, especially my palm. my palm moistens so quickly that you can spot moist mark on a table after I pressed my palm on it. thus, my mouse get dirt on it quite quickly. no, it's not smelly. no it doesn't feel dirty either somehow. it just left a mark, like dried wet-tissue

Or if you're like me and eat in front of the pc most of the time food happens to fall on the mouse or you use the mouse with fingers that are greasy an it starts to build up on the mouse.

I take most of my meals in front of my PC. It's my one size fits all media center, and we americans love to eat watching tv.

Because of this though, my keyboard and mouse get dirty easily. although I never have to "wash" my mouse. Just wipe it down every now and again and scrape a little grime out between the cracks.

Well if you eat in front of your computer I surpose it could be useful having a 'washable mouse'. But the fact you eat "most" yours meals in front of your PC, might mean your on it too much haha...

Whilst you are on the phone to your manufacturer complaining about your keyboard being broken you will realise perhaps half a kilo of cake crumbs inside it won't be doing any good, and begin wondering why they don't make washable keyboards!!

This is actually a really good idea, no matter how silly it sounds. We spend more and more time in front of computers and if you're using a public or even a family computer then that mouse is going to have been in contact with quite a few people. And remember, people aren't always as hygenic as we'd like. Of course, the flipside to the coin is that if we sanitise everything will we ever get a chance to build up resistance to germs? You can look at it both ways.

Cool. Is that white strip a scroll pad or what. I couldn't sacrifice a wheel now.

Just the other day, I gave my laser mouse a complete take-apart and clean-down (water and alcohol). I think there was lint or some debris making the mouse buttons not snappy to click. It feels much better to use now :S

Yeah, I think that's a scrollpad. It's in the right place, and the thing with scroll wheels is that they leave gaps in the mechanism. If you dunk a mouse with a scroll wheel in the water you can kiss it goodbye.

Computer mice and keyboards are area's prone to becoming excessively dirty and a prime breeding grounds for all sorts of microscopic germs and the mouse pad / keyboard pad are also just as bad. If you've got an old mouse pad take it to the kitchen sink and put a little liquid dish detergent on it and a little water and start scrubbing one side on the other then run water over it and you will start going "EEWWWWW!!!". I try to clean my mouse pad and mouse and keyboard on a regular basis but the keyboard is the hardest because liquids can damage the interface of the keyboard as I found out thanks to my daughter spilling her drink. The mouse is easier to clean with some rubbing alcohol or any cleaning agent with anti bacterial properties and grease cutting abilities ( our bodies do make oils to protect the skin ) and using cotton swabs on a stick for the hard to reach area's such as the rollers for the track ball.
