Sasara sent me mail with a photo saying that shes taking the car out for a spin with her new boyfriend. What?!

But I was thinking that this is a good way to use the carpool lane in America. For those who don't know, cars with two passengers or more can use a special lane to wizz through traffic - encouraging folks to travel in numbers which would reduce the number of cars on the road.

We got carpool lanes here in America too.
    And god they are handy.

I remember many a year ago, we were stuck in bay area traffic, but carpool lane was totally empty !! We got to ride it. and forever will the words my cousin shouted in the car echo in my head... "hahaha, you aint go no friends!"

3 "cheers" for the carpool lane ! Banzai ! Banzai ! Banazai !

BTW i can see that the wheel is on the right side of the car, what the? is it like in UK or something? i tried to ask my teacher and she said that in japan there are cars with wheels on the right side and cars with wheels on the left side. on what lane are you supposed to drive then? LOL

In Japan, they drive left, just like in the UK. But because not all cars (like sports cars) come with a wheel on the right side option, they just drive them with the wheel on the left side (like a Porsche for example).

I think driving with the wheel in the wrong side should be illegal. The reason is that sometimes we have to drive around something (like a parked car) and then you will need to look for oncoming traffic. If the driver is in the wrong side then it can be a game of luck.

I tried driving a Japanese car once. However since the car was moved to Europe, I should still drive in the right side. Using the other hand for changing gear took some getting used to but I think the hardest part was that the "arms" for vipers and turn signals were switched. Oddly enough viewing from the "wrong" side of the car wasn't a problem but then again we didn't encounter any parked cars and nearly no traffic. It would be hell to drive in dense traffic and in fact the car is now completely wrecked because the driver failed to see oncoming traffic before turning left >.<

Oh, and please don't ask how a Japanese car ended up in Europe.... it's a LONG story and that car has seen more of the world than I have :(

It's actually a good idea. I heard that they made a tunnel somewhere in Spain (Madrid?) where you can go fast to the city centre. However they banned cars with only one person in that tunnel. As a result cars stops just before the tunnel and picks up strangers so they are allowed to use that tunnel and the strangers will get a faster ride to the city centre than the bus would give them. It's a good idea but personally I would never pick up a stranger. It would be too dangerous, at least here :(

The only problem with carpool lanes are that if there's a driver in front of you that's not moving fast enough, you're stuck behind him/her. Since you can't leave carpool lanes until you reach certain points, you also run the risk of overshooting your exit. 65 miles per hour is supposed to be California's speed limit, but in certain places if you drive below 70-75 your car better not be in the carpool lane or there will be a lot of annoyed drivers behind you.

True, I constantly use the carpool lanes when driving with my friends. What makes me even more happy is that they recently made a lot more of the highways in and around San Francisco have carpool lanes, and extended the times when it's available to accommodate rush hours.

But I hate the people who are driving by themselves on the carpool lane, and are hogging the lanes when we're trying to pass traffic.

The number of "available" manpower (and the low cost for manpower) made it possible to assign traffic cops in the end of such lanes to make sure people obey the rule (or bribe past them) in Indonesia... for most, if not every day

In Jakarta there is no special lane, but for the main roads in the heart of the city, there's a "3 in 1" rule... Any car using those road with passenger (including driver) less than 3 people, will be stopped by police and given ticket.

So during those "3-in-1" hours, we got to find alternate road if we're only alone in the car. The sick part is, even with that rule enforced, those main road will still be clogged, the alternative road?? do you even need to ask??

They let hybrids in the carpool lane in California too, even with one person... and they tend to slow down the whole lane :(

    I forget what city
but a woman driving in the carpool lane was ticketed for being alone
her defense was that she was pregnant so there were in fact two people in the car
I believe her case was dismissed and the rules were supposed to be revised

Haha I wonder what cops might be thinking if they drive to the side of you and notice that. Oh and there are certain places at certain times that carpool lane requires at least 3 people. So an extra dakimakura in the back seat. XP

That's an interesting law...the whole carpool.

Indonesia has something like that though and it seems to cause more traffic since there's no such thing as color-coding (Simply put depending on the last number on your license plate will show when you can bring out that car)

Haha what fun she seems to have

actually danny in the US you can get caught for that... i read a news article once where a guy put a blow up doll in the passenger seat to cheat the carpool system.. and then the cop ended up making stand at the side of the high and wave the blow up doll at people driving on the highway for an hour...

I only get to play in the carpool lane twice a year when I go to Atlanta, GA for the anime convention there. I feel like I'm going to get run over considering that Atlanta drivers are freaking scary. Also doesn't help that I also have to dive across 3 lanes of dense insane traffic just to get to the next from that lane since its on the inside.

She decided to find her own happiness. You shouldn't have left her alone, Danny. She became lonely and sad and now it turned out like that.

Carpool lane? Sounds cool. We don't have it here in Czech Republic, and probably never will.

By all means, the carpool lane. the police will see through the ruse, but will be too embarrassed to stop the otaku behind the wheel.. or maybe it is fear of infection? Or just simple jealousy....? (^ω^)
