Canon 5D Mark II

Akihabara News have a simply gorgeous video of Tokyo - and not just any video. Its taken with the Canon 5D mark II. They have uploaded the full HD video (1.81GB) here but if you cant be bothered then at least give the daily motion version a whirl.
Just got my Kiss 2 and wont be getting a digital SLR that can record HD video unless the price drops significantly.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

I'll watch the full HD video later on. I got Kiss 2 too by the way and that's good enough for me.

the canon 1000D is cheap and good for an entry level DSLR.

I don't own a DSLR, I have a regular ol point and shoot job. It does me fine for my infrequent' camera useage.

hmm, can't do proper photography, so buying SLR would be just a waste of money for me..

Waiting for the D80 to drop in price some more before I bite the bullet. Maybe there'll be a special for the D90 come Christmas/Boxing day.

Oh yeah, I saw that video... just gorgeous/awesome!
Really has that professional studio feeling.
The only problem is that it was too hard on my poor laptop processor, so it came all chopped on HD.
Like I said on the comments, if this camera had a mic input, I'd even consider buying one in a near future... because you know, it's stil a DSLR... too pricey for my poor pocket.

I have always been wanting to get myself on an SLR, but my lack of income + recent purchase of PSP, DS and Wii has stopped me from buying it. May be in 1/2 a yr or so I'll get enough money once again to get myself a SLR.

I still use and will continue to use my old Canon EOS 5D. I think my camera is now three years old. Well I bought it month one after its release in the States. I would rather my additional lenses than consider upgrading to the 5D MII.

I own a Nikon dSLR [brand new, but an old model] and an SLR [an old Chinon my dad found, it's a 1984 or 85 model, I don't use it though ^^;] :3

Even on a simple digicam, my hands aren't stable enough... so the thought of getting one of those fancy cams has never crossed my mind. Would love to take such great pics though>.<
Unemployed bummer
@_@ at Robo's recent lack of income but purchase of 3 new gaming devices.
anyway, i was just wondering, would there be any issues if videos of people you filmed while going around were put up somewhere on the Net?
as for me, my interest in an SLR has increased due to the difficulty of getting good night shots while i was in Tokyo but being unemployed atm, it's tough to commit to something this expensive. probably when i get a new job, i'll get an SLR with my bonus or something. ^_^

less than S$1000 for a Canon 1000D or Nikon D40.

i dont own an dslr, just a PnS. its good only in bright light, and all limitations come into play at iso's over 200. i think i overgrew it in just six months. will upgrade to a dslr next year when i get a bonus. most probably a nikon D60 or canon D1000.

That's some very high res.
I could call mine SLR, though whenever shaking hands or in motion, the outcome will be blurry.
So it's not good after all.

It's really one demanding video to watch. 40-45% Cpu use on my Q6600. But it just makes me want that camera that much more.
I would love to have it with me if and when I go to some conventions and such. A poor man can dream...

i would never buy a DSLR just because it can also do HD video
if i wanted to do that, i'd just buy a HD camcorder/whatnot.
A DLSR was designed to take photos and do it well.

While there are some full HD camcorders out there, it's to my knowledge that they aren't the best for taking pictures. This camera takes the best pictures and is capable of getting the best video recording, all on to 1 "compact" unit. (i use the word compact loosely)
It's bad enough carrying a dslr around with you on a trip/convention I am sure. But now you don't have to lug around a Full HD Video camera around with you too.
The dude who has this cam at anime expo you know is going to be big pimpin.
I am sure there is also another number of advantages to this as well. We don't have an actual price set on it yet, to my knowledge, but I imagine after the initial release and the price drops down, its going to be more affordable than buying a top tier dslr and full hd cam as well.

That pictures looks weird. Did the person set it a a low shutter rate or just quickly zoom out when the picture was taken?

I'm guessing a low shutter speed. It gives the picture some character i think.

When I improve over the next few years, will buy something at this level. Not just for HD video since that would be a little silly.
Currently I have a Canon 20D, 5D that is on loan from a good friend and my classic film SLRs. Hopefully I can keep my 20D alive for a long time to come. It is a remarkable camera.

I was looking forward to hearing the sounds of Tokyo so I could feel like I was there... but alas it's dubbed with crappy music. The Camera is amazing though, superb picture quality. I think it may even rival a typical TV-broadcaster's camera. It's that good.
