Ken Akamatsu is the creator of popular bishojo titles like Love Hina and Negima. He was interviewed on this weeks Bari Bari Value which is one of my fave shows - never miss it.

The first part covers Anime Expo in the US and interviews some visitors and then goes on to show how popular manga is outside of Japan - this leads up to Love Hina and Negima which is making loadsa money in the overseas market. BTW, the colloquial term for "making loadsa money" is "ZakZak" (ザクザク) which you may hear from time to time in the interview.

Then we get to see Ken working in his studio and find out how much money he makes (loads and loads).

The next part is where we get to see his gorgeous apartment and his very cute cosplay wife.
Thanks to Peter of www.sweatpig.com for the heads up of the YouTube videos. Very Very NSFW so you are going to have to copy n paste that link ^^;
BTW, the first image in this post is of Naru from Love Hina - you can see the photo review somewhere here.

Bari Bari Value is a show which covers people who have made it big time. The best part of the show is where we get to see how these big timers live by visiting their glamorous dwellings.
Most of the time, we get to hear stories of how these big timers were struggling through the early days to build up their business. Listening to these stories and looking at they way they live as a result of their hard work keeps me immensely focused on my destination.

Finding a destination and keeping focused can be difficult when there are obstacles in the way. Many who are in these difficult situations can get stressed out, depressed and easily loose focus.

Just like everybody else, I too face a lot of challenges but see these obstacles in a different light. Looking back in the past, I can say that I am glad to have been blessed with the problems that I have encountered. Whenever I encounter a new obstacle, I feel lucky because I get to focus on the problem and overcome it which usually leaves me or the business in a better shape. These obstacles can be seen as opportunities to better ourselves.

Next time you feel that the world is against you for some reason, look at your situation as a blessing. After all, life would be boring if it was all plain sailing. Never forget though that no matter how young you are, time is running out and you dont know exactly how much of it you have left. If you want to do something, do it now before its too late.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

    Life is great, actually. In a few short weeks I will be moving out of my home into the College World, and it is a time I have long waited for.

    Finally it is my chance to gain back lost ground that 4 years of High School took away from me! Friends, Hobbies and my development into a further education. It's great to be able to complete my hobbies and still have the ability to continue on through College.

    I take everyday now as a blessing: I realized that one cannot spend their time laying around for weeks doing nothing. Life has to be spent wisely and carefully to get the full experience out of it. Instead of hating the world: I look for things in it that are beautiful (nature).

    I learned that individuality comes at a dire price when you are around those that devour it, but you are not necessarily associating with them. Being surrounded by people with a common goal in mind is something I need to move on with. Where I go, people go there because they want to, not because they have to.

    This is a great show, wish I could see it regularly. Programs like this help to give me that little extra push that I need from time to time.

    Right now, I'm definitely in the so-so range. I'm making so many changes and I feel a little uncertain about where I stand. Then, I have moved myself outside of that comfortable and safe zone. Making maters worst I've always been an impatient person. I expect everything as of yesterday. To compound the situation I feel I'm getting a late start in regards to my age.

    Don't really see myself reaching the great point. I always feel I have a lot more to do and can improve on the present. Many have told me I need to learn to be satisfied, maybe they are right.

    Very true, it is important to set goals -both short and long term- and to remain focused. Chances are when you think your problems are bad, you are still in a good position. What doesn't kill you will make you stronger.

    I'm a lucky man, I have a strong and beautiful woman by my side. Life is definitely a journey best shared with someone you love and who loves you in return.

    That was the second time I read your post about time running out, and it is something that runs through my mind quite often. Primarily because I'm worried I won't end up as successful as I had imagined when I was younger. The way society has set itself up over the years has driven me to notice the pressure that we all experience. It's true not many people my age really stop to think about it, but it's sad to realize that only the people who have "sufficient" brain power and financial backing are able to make it anywhere near what society considers "big" or "successful". Otherwise it wouldn't be equal opportunity? ^^;

The way society has set itself up over the years has driven me to notice the pressure that we all experience. It's true not many people my age really stop to think about it, but it's sad to realize that only the people who have "sufficient" brain power and financial backing are able to make it anywhere near what society considers "big" or "successful". Otherwise it wouldn't be equal opportunity? ^^;

    Anyway, if you want a job that nets a lotta chicks, a friend of mine suggest becoming a pilot for commercial airlines. Sadly, my Maths didn't reach the minimum requirement to become a pilot, so another alternative is becoming a reporter for an obscure country like Kazakhstan, but I don't know how will that give me great success.

    OK, first and foremost...Thanks for the videos. I'm a huge Akamatsu fan and now will probably have to post those vids to my blog as well (And yes, his wife is very cute - Lucky, lucky man).

    Now I only wish I knew Japanese so I could understand what's being said.

    OK, I have to ask. The two guys in suits, are they a regular part of the show? Becasue if I'm not mistaken, the larger of the two is Himura Yuuki (who I recognize as Daruma from Akihabara@Deep). Which for me (A big A@D Fan as well) is just plain cool ^_^

    As for life, I suppose I could see it as great, but without direction. It's like I have a general feeling of what I would like to do, but with no focus to be able to set a goal. Shows like this do help to drive me onward. But I lack the ability to determine ultimately where I'll end up.

    It doesn't matter how much money you get. If you hate your job, your life will suck even if you make hundreds of thousands a year.

    I remember seeing a list of job satisfaction index: Photographers were the happiest with their jobs and doctors, yes doctors, were one of the least happy bunch.

    PS, that mansion has some killer views of Shinjuku.

    wow, I knew Love Hina and Negima were successful but not that successful. I do know that Negima is the most popular manga in the UK at the moment. Ken Akamatsu is a lucky man, wealthy, cosplay wife. SUPREME!
    Masashi Kishimoto should be on that show. I don't know how rich he is but he never used to be good at what he does and now Naruto is one of the worlds biggest manga franchises.

    That guy has it MADE! Very cute wife with an attraction to dressing up, tons of money, and that AWESOME apartment! The view of shinjuku is stunning!

    As for life? Its a bit of a mess. Im not totally happy with my job, but dont really want to leave because im too comfortable there, and going anywhere else will require effort and drastic change - agh!

    Ill try and make a decision on it soon...

    Well, he deserves his current position, wealth and all the rest.

    I feel lucky in life somehow. I don't have to struggle everyday for survival and I have the opportunity to succeed in my career.
    I also have the chance to have support and no one to block me.

    I always say to myself that there is better but also much worse than me. So I rarely complain. I may go for a little depression from time to time but I grit my teeth and go on.
    I try not to complain and see things on the positive side, so I never lose hope.

    I forgot to say that I feel that Ken Akamatsu seems really humble and honest.
    I've never liked Occidental celebrities (especially those from Hollywood) because they tend to boast about their money, house, car and everything pricey and useless... They don't put the focus on hard work or personal struggle.
    The last idea is important for youths as they always look for a role model. If the one they idolize is way too materialistic, there is nothing good to learn about.

    I hope you see my point.

    Life is so so atm. I am stuck in finding a worthy partner for my project. If anyone is interested in being a partner on a new social network targeted especially for japan and do you have strong flash skills, a passion for social networks or a huge insight into running a web 2.0 business in Japan, then you might be what I am looking for. I am in the demo building stage but fresh ideas and other perspectives are always wecome.

    Big thanks to Ken for bringing us Love Hina. It's the anime that made me into the anime freak that I am right now. heheh! He sure is lucky though. Her wife is kawaii + she cosplays. That is total WIN!!! XD

    Kudos to you to danny for bringing up this post. I'm reminded again to get back on track with my dreams. :D I've always looked at problems as something that helps me learn and that's why I enjoy solving them. Life is sooo much fun this way. ^^ I'd agree that life is really boring if its smooth sailing till the end. Where's the challenge in that? :D

    Love Hina was one of the first animé I watched and still remains my favourite. Probably just before Chobits for me.

    Akamatsu-sensei is so great, love Negima and Love Hina series. Negima was the one that got me really interested in the anime/manga/japanese culture universe.
