The movie poster for the 2009 Astro Boy compared to the Japanese original.
Hmmmm. I think I need some time getting used to the 2009 movie version.
Via Akaa.

Did anybody get round to watching the latest anime series of Tetsuwan Atom? Was quite awesome.

I never got into astro boy, and pretty much felt the same.
        It just doesn't look right.

It's bad enough I had to sit and watch things I loved get butchered, but now I have to watch it happen to things I never got into as well. It's like a preemptive strike to keep me from being interested in it ever.

I really love the latest Tetsuwan Atom anime series even though I've only seen the first and bits of the second season.

The CG 2009 Astro Boy version doesn't have that "edge" that the original Japanese version got. Feels too wholesome and PG13 to me...

Imagi Animation people! Not Pixar lol, though it's cool that Pixar is well known. Go Wall-E!
Anyway Imagi did TMNT as Matsu mentioned above, as well as the upcoming Gatchaman CG movie to come I think in the same year as the Astroboy. Probably means that at least one of the two was made in either their HK or Japan studio, unless they just have a great amount of manpower to make both films at the same time in the same studio.

I loved the newer tv animation version. The west obv got a different op song to that lol, but it was so awesome.
It was pulled from CBBC for being 'too dark' though.... bloody annoying.... They repeated some episodes last year sometime though.

I have seen both new and original TV series, and have to say I prefer the original 80's version. Maybe it's just my fond childhood memories that make it seem better ?

I admit that the original one is still the best, but I think it would a fresh idea if I could see Astro Boy being animated in 3D. I have high hopes for Imagi. Lets hope they make the mark.

The Dragonball movie might be good. Might. But you're right, enough's enough. Hollywood's taking it too far. I mean how are they gonna pull off a live action Cowboy Bebop!?

Movie Astro Boy's smirk looks disturbingly condescending. It's as if he himself doesn't think highly of his own movie.

i would like to see a post apocalyptic astro boy movie. a grimey story where astro boy doesnt have anyone helping him and small bands of humans fight off a master race of robots.

This poster of the AstroBoy movie doesn't look that great but the image on the Wikipedia article of Tetsuwan Atom reassures me, a little...

Yea, either that or if doing a remake, stick to the original drawings. Like Evangelion. The latest Evangelion movie remakes are simply zomg.

I grew up with Naruto, FMA, and Ghost in the Shell. I did watch the 80s version, really cool.

Guess we'll just have to see how this turns out.

Vote for Original. It's hard to see the changes, especially if it is something that has been part of your childhood.

Astro boy......looks so Jimmy Neurtron-ish....Kind of also reminds me of Disney's the Robinsons....

Blah....He looks too much like some 50s version of a CGI version of "Leave it to Beaver".
