Just had breakfast meeting with Ken Taya - the artist who runs enfu and popular with his Hybrid Nippop art.

Ken is one of the environment artists responsible for the environment that surrounds you in Halo. If you have any feedback for him them leave them here ^^;
Met up with Ken to discuss bits n bobs n this n that.
Also learned that Ken works with one of my Amazon ex-colleagues at Bungie. Small world.

Ken brought some swag for us including these Halo Kubricks signed by the core developers on Halo. Cant wait to visit Seattle again.

Any Halo players here? How does it compare with other online FPS? Ken was also telling me how fights break out between groups and they try to kill each other - the looser getting something called a "face hump." I still have to delve into the world of online gaming but Ken warned about how it could get addictive.

I still have not ventured into the 360 world anyway as I hear the red ring of death is still quite common.

    Halo itself is a good game. It's the players that make it bad. Most of the people you play with are either
    a. too cocky for their own good
    or
    b. an annoying small child that screams obscenities into the mic and makes your ears bleed
    but when you find yourself some good friends to play with it's really not that bad a game. It's fairly balanced and the playlists it has are fun as well (especially SWAT IMO). Even so, I'd wait till tomorrow for Gears of War 2 or play Call of Duty 4.

      Forgot to add for Danny. The "face hump" is called "teabagging." And if you're a fairly new player the cocky kids will do it to you. A lot.

        LOL! Never played Halo 3, but me and my buds use to play as a squad in Battlefield 2 & 2142. One of my squad members always teabagged the fallen. He, for some reason, always took these shooter games too personally.

    Halo 3 is an excellent game. True, some people online are little kids or claim that they are the best in the world, and will do anything to "prove" that. I still frequently play Halo 3, it's a good game, and not everyone online is like that anyways. As with any online game, there are some people that are actually there to have fun while not ruining it for others. The campaign is pretty nice, so you should check it out.

    Played the first Halo on PC. And i have to admit that the game was hyped a lot, but it wasnt a really satisfying a game for me. Good thing i didnt play online in Halo, so i've not suffered the indignity of having someones balls shoved up me face. ^^;

    The only FPS game i play online is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A very good game, just as popular as Halo 3, and pretty much grounded in realism. Plus, there is no teabagging in the game but you get to see through the eyes of the player who killed you (aka Killcam).

    Halo 3 is ok for many fans, but for me, it's a hyped-up game. Everybody has their tastes ^^;

    Halo 3 is a good FPS for a console. The multiplayer is very hectic and gratifying and the single player is a sorta epic sci-fi story. The world is quite visually engaging even though sometimes the outdoors spaces and flood infested areas feel a bit sparse/repetitive, though that is to be expected.
    If you haven't seen them, the Super Chief World videos give a view of what the Forge map editor can do with some coordination and camerawork. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm1676524

    Mr. Choo you are one lucky person. For my self I have played all three but never beat them as I played at a friends house with them. As for online play you have to be self aware of the environment that you enter due to the language that is shared among players. Most of the time it is a pleasant time and everyone has fun. Other times words that should not be said will be. As for the figures your received I'm happy for you as my self I'm not a figure collector but would like to have those especially signed. I hope for the best your return to Seattle in the near future. Thank you and have a great day.

    Played Halo mostly for the story. I've read some of the novels too, multiplayer is pretty much what everyone else has described above.
    As for the red ring of death. Mine just got one and it will be 2 months before my warranty ends. What makes it even worse is that it happened when all the good games are coming out (Fable 2, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2) >=O
    then again, it has been almst 3 years since i got it and I fear it was my own fault for not giving it enough ventilation.

    I dont own an xbox but I have played Halo 1 for the PC. That was fun, and it was easier to play that in the hardest diffculty. During the tropical island and snow missions, I managed in Legendary to save all the marines (not let them die). It was a little challenge I made for myself. Halo 2 and 3 I haven't played so I don't know. Halo 1 PC multiplayer was horrible and laggy but I believe 2 and 3 are a lot better.
    As for online FPS, I only really got into Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 1. Spent so many hours in the weekends playing those.

    My advice to Ken is to look at what Infinity Ward did with Call of Duty 4. This is how you make a successful FPS that people don't get bored with. My friends and I are big FPS fans and we play all of them from Unreal, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty, Quake, and of course Counterstrike. We played Halo 3 for about a week and we were bored. The levels are bland and do not promote any type of encounters between players. It seems like everything is designed to promote players from coming into contact with each other. Weapons like the assault rifle(or whatever you calling it now) are horrible and shouldn't even be in the game. All they promote is pray and spray and not much else. Why even use half the guns when you can have a shotgun? Its the future and your wearing forcefield protected armor but its one of the best guns? Seriously?

      Forgot to mention - Danny please don't associate your site with Halo and Bungie. Promoting a horrible game and a halfassed design studio is not the way to go.

          Yes the mouse is easy mode. With the mouse and keyboard I can easy run over ten or twelve people without even batting an eye. You can claim all you want that its not easier, but when you can spin a 360 in less then a second and kill 4 people it speaks for itself.

    I am going to be buying an Xbox 360 in about a month, my friends at University convinced me to get one, and i love my games, so i guess i win ^_^

    Also Danny, just a quick note on the Red Ring of Death. It is a lot less common in the newer models. They have a new chipset, and supposedly the new one is supposed to try and prevent or at least reduce the chances of RRoD'ing.

    my 360 just broke a few days ago. It didn't red ring but the graphics card completely died so now I am waiting for it to return from Microsoft's repair center. Waiting for it sucks especially since I just got a new HDTV and as soon as I hook the 360 up to it it dies. :(

    I'd wish to try Halo 3, but overall, I just can't play FPS on a console.
    I just NEED keyboard and mouse.

    Yep, I'm a CS:S player... also playing Combat Arms since Counter Strike Source, for some reason, became too heavy to play on my laptop (after several updates).

    Oh yeah, Combat Arms is very similar to Counter Strike, and it's free... post I made on my blog:

      About the experience, it goes something like this:
      If you have no experience on FPS gaming, you'll probably need lots of patience to practice 'till you get a little skilled.
      After that, it just becomes an addiction.
      From my own experience, even when I had days that I only got pissed playing the game (mostly because of low fps since I play on a laptop), I still play for 5 hours sometimes.

      Also, I used to be a RPG/adventure player when I was younger, so I guess just anyone can become addicted to it.

    I find Halo3 thoroughly enjoyable on standalone play. Way better than the first instalment. I haven't played any online, but I played 1 on 1 against my nephew and he thoroughly spanked me. My excuse was I hadn't played at all for months so kept forgetting the buttons to duck, roll dodge etc.....

    Re the RED RING 'O DEATH, mine finally ringed itself a few weeks ago after two and a half years of faultless service. Microsoft gladly coughed up for a repair (cost me $8 for postage) as it was within 3 years of original purchase. I think I got back a different refurbished machine, as the MAC address was different. I thought the red ring 'o death was history now, so long as you had the newer consoles. If it's got HDMI out, chances are it's got the new improved GPU cooling as well so you shouldn't have issues.

    I have both PS3 and 360 and I have to say PS3 is so much better. Despire Halo 3 being the best FPS imo, is it really worth paying less for a lesser console like the 360 that breaks down all the time? Anyways my PS3 has never broken down *touch wood*, and the 360 has broken down 6 times and counting! Stick to PS3 I say danny...

    Love the Halo series. As for the Red Ring of Death, I got that once three years after I purchased my xbox 360 at midnight when it first came out. Microsoft was real good about getting it fixed and sent back to me in as little as 2 weeks and it didn't cost me anything since I was under warranty and already had a box to ship it in. I just got it back and I've been playing Fable II on it, which is another great game although not as good as Oblivion.

    Halo's an odd case: the first game is a timeless masterpiece, but the sequel.. ugh... . But, you see, what is truly amazing about Bungie FPS games is that they all have a common timeline, and a common Mythology. Many of the things that are mentioned in the Halo games, like the Forerunners, the ones who built the Halos, or even the logo of the UNSC, Earth's Army, were part of their previous games (Marathon Trilogy and Pathways Into Darkness). So what might look like a simple FPS is, in fact, part of one of the most complex franchises in videogaming history, with a timeline that covers six centuries!

    Gameplay-wise, the games have their own style, much like any Bungie FPS, but you can say that's it's a very solid game that, back in 2001, brought a couple of new ideas, like the massive use of vehicles in a FPS, something that was rarely done back in the day. I still haven't played Halo 3, so I can't really give an up-to-date review of the gameplay of this latest installment, but I guess it's more of the same, really.
