Male or Female Game Character

Been playing the latest Castlevania game Order of Ecclesia which I'm enjoying quite a bit - love the series and this time round you get to play with a lovely female character.

Been wanting to ask you - when you play games where you can choose a male or female character, which do you choose? I usually always go for the female character.

Castlevania in action below and the wallpaper at here.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.

If I'm going to be staring at a screen for hours on end (especially with an addictive rpg) I'd rather be looking at something hot and sexy hence females for me.

If it's a game with morality paths (KOTOR, Fable 2, fallout), the first time I'll play through I'd be playing as an evil b*tch. It's not out of some misogynistic tendency if you're asking. Second playthrough with be the nice poor guy though.

Female all the way, unless the male character is somewhat more attractive than the female ;p

Been using all-female in my RO& most online game. When playing MMORPG, there's always an extra benefit waiting to be claim because the opposite player might actually think you're a real female player, thus bargaining on an item is much more easier.

LoL I've been picking the female characters a lot in games all the time. My favourite female choice was Summon Night 1 for GBA. In this game, you, the main character can summon one of 5-6 summon creatures. One of them is this female spirit, who used to be your father's summon creature. Your father promised this female spirit that she can marry his offspring. Now if you pick the female character... you get TONS of yuri references XD It's really really funny!

Oh oh and my favourite instances of female character fun, is in the first Spider-Man movie game. There's a code where you can play as Mary Jane swinging around as Spider-Man. At the end of the normal game there's a scene where Spider-Man is supposed to kiss Mary Jane, but of course since you're playing Mary Jane, the ending clip shows Mary Jane smooching with Mary Jane!

I usually play female characters for two reasons:

    1) Quite frankly, I don't feel compelled to stare at a guy's arse for hours or days on end.

    2) The armor for female characters is cooler. Granted, it's often quite drafty and lacking in several crucial areas but it's ALWAYS better looking than the designs made for male characters.

For example when I played WoW, I picked female when playing human Alliance side (male human was butt-ugly), but when I play Horde I picked the male troll (female troll was hideous).

My reasoning is that if I'm going to look at my character's rear all the time it might as well look appealing to my eyes.

It really depends on the game. The best example I can think of right now is Neverwinter Nights. I tend to pick men if it's a figther class and females if it's a wizard/cleric. However sometimes it's also a random pick.

Some games aren't the same for both genders (different dialog and/or stats and so on) and then I quite naturally have to try both.

    And let's be honest: if the graphics are good then we pick female ^^;

Like other have mentioned, if i am going to grind or spend time in a game i might as well be staring at some eye candy while doing it.

About Order of Ecclesia, awesome game. Haven't had this much fun in a Castelvania game since SOTN. This is also one of the first CV's in awhile to have original music instead of just remixes of Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer and other classic CV hits. Been slowly playing through Albus mode now. Tried a FRESH lvl 1 hard mode but that will take me years to beat...I wonder if anyone has beaten it with a FRESH lvl 1 hard mode....pretty sure some japanese hardcore gamer could do it.

It's a hard choice for me actually ^^; depends on what kind of weapon they use. Let's say if I have to choose Dante from DMC 4 or Bayonetta then I really cant choose... both of them are just awesome & smexy !! XD

I usually play male. But, nowadays, males are starting to look more and more feminine, and females are starting to either look sluttier and sluttier or younger and younger. Case in point: Alucard, Soma Cruz, ANY new series FF characters (eg, Tidus, Squall). So it kind of sucks :[. But, yes, I usually play male, but depending on the game, I'll just play both for different reasons. Eg, Maria in Rondo of Blood because the game is incredibly easy with her :D.

CASTLEVANIA PEOPLE: How does OoE stack up against AOS, SOTN, and the other good Metroidvanias?

Ever since Metroid gave me a wake up call, I've always picked a female character first. Even though options are open to try everyone on different turns (or with friends). Its fun just to see what differences there are in gameplay controls, to timing from one another. Hmm.. if Dante could be female.. hehe

Female for the obvious reasons~ i dont like staring at a guys ass.

Other more sound reasons are i prefer the stats female characters get vs males. Racing~ usually agility/acceleration vs uncontrollable speed. Good old Castlevania64 the girl was more fun to play simply because you could mindlessly jump around and kill everything and fit in smaller spaces, tho i did like how there were two different paths for both characters. FPS you give the illusion of being a smaller target.

I usually create and play male characters - that way, people who kill me online will feel no guilt offing "another common grunt dude" as opposed to some pretty little thing.

When I was young I used to choose male characters over female. But now... hohoo! FEMALE AAAL THE WAY!!! And I've always hated to play with a beefed up muscle porkers! It's so lame!
A friend of mine at school plays Tekken 5 on his PSP and he chooses only that black guy with a tiger head. And I saw so many attractive heroines! Come on, he's missing the REAL fun!

In online games, I always play as the female character (as I am a female IRL)--but I hate it when I get hit on inappropriately. Console games...it doesn't matter, depending on the game. Many of the games I play have more male characters than females that I can relate to anyway, lol.

Depends on which one has the best character designs, though if both of them a good I tend to go for male unless I'm in the mood to play as a female.

It really depends on the game. For games like Oblivion or Mass Effect I go with male characters. If it's something like Phantasy Star Online/Universe or FFXI, I go with females (Unless they got something badass like Galkas).
