Oh, and personally I much prefer the Mac OS Finder to Windows' explorer, no doubt because I've been a Mac user since birth. I could never live without Mac Finder features such as spring loaded folders, columns view, Labels, the sidebar, etc.
You can sort in open/save dialogs in Snow Leopard. Switch to list mode instead of column, thenr ight-click on the column headers to add new columns, and click them to sort.
