My first ever was Cardcaptor Sakura -_-. Loved the artwork, but was grossed out by the shojo soppiness. Had no choice though, it was the only anime on TV at that time. And then came Rurouni Kenshin.... The rest, as they say, is history...

Nice topic. I can't say that I'm proud to be an otaku, I've experienced what it means to be a full time otaku+hikikomori and it's decidedly not fun. I don't mind telling people that I watch anime, or struggling to explain that they aren't cartoons ^^...
