I would consider the iPhone if it came out for multiple carriers in the U.S. (particularly Verizon). In the U.S., iPhone is exclusive to the garbage AT&T for the next couple years.
I did not like the Apple iPad case because it was so flimsy. If you need a stand, you can get a business card holder or a plate holder for very cheap, both of which work fantastic. A couple photos here http://www.protocolsnow.com/2010/05/22/deciding-...
I forgot to mention that Limousine Bus takes you directly to the front door of many hotels. The seats are also fairly spacious and comfortable. Highly recommended.
I've had nothing but positive experiences with Limousine Bus. I always travel with a lot of luggage so using the trains is a big hassle. If you don't like carrying big suitcases up and down stairs, stay away from the trains!!
I bought an iPad for my mom. It's great for web browsing and email but it certainly has some significant limitations. Hopefully as time goes on, there will be more cool apps released.
Welcome home! The Heathrow airport lounge is very familiar to me because I was stranded there last year also. Only for about 3 hours though, not a week like you!
iPad is Apple's biggest disappointment. I haven't seen such widespread discontent from a new Apple product. Seems like a completely superfluous product.
