Been wearing contacts since eighth grade. Comfortable, better correction for my vision in a number of respects. I suppose they took some getting used to at first, but after awhile they're no big deal.
On the contrary, it's simplified Chinese that's only used in a certain place — mainland China. The illusion of it being "the global system" comes only from the broad interest in learning simplified for the sake of doing business with the mainland.

First contact with mecha was catching part of Gundam Wing when it first aired in America on Cartoon Network. I liked it a lot then, but it wasn't until last Fall when I started watching the Universal Century stuff that I got really hooked.
