The missile trajectories you refer to are called the "Itano circus" - after Macross's animation director Ichiro Itano who pioneered this.
I used to like Kawamori; the original Macross was pretty much a "pro war" anime - but Kawamori's changed to a...
ugh :( That's such a crappy spot to place it - ruins the picture moments with the buildings in the background. The original location when it first appeared on Odaiba seemed best. I personally saw it when it was in Fukuoka infront of the Bandai museum...
Summer wars was awesome ! Aside from having watched it in the theaters when it 1st came out; I also watched it twice at home.
I haven't watched "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" yet, I'll have to do something about that :)
Manual focus only - there is no "logic" exchange between lens <- (adapter ring) -> camera
Manual focus is a dream on the NEX5 N due to "focus peek" function, which highlights on your display what area is in focus, or isn't - and turn the ring accord...
I dislike the 16/2.8 on the NEX lens line-up; it's a very soft lens, only gaining sharpness at F/8. The 18-55 isn't bad, but at it's size the best thing to do to get the most image quality from the NEX5 or 5N is to use an adapter to fit a DSLR lens....
Danny - I'm quite shocked to read that your basing your purchase decisions on user comments.
Shouldn't you know best what you need for your needs and with that knowledge read up on (non biased) information and then make an informed decision? I mean...
Japan sure has had a rough time, the missing income from tourism is hurting the hostel/hotel business and probably allot more. I was so sad to find out that my favorite hotel that I've used for 50% of all my Tokyo trips (Oak hotel, Ueno) had to close...
I wonder just how many people might needlessly die off flooding with this Typhoon.
Japan has a few HEP companies (Hydro electric power - think dams etc.) which much like TEPCO are run by a bunch of muppets. Last Typhoon one HEP power company respon...
It's too bad that Japanese is an absolute must. Otherwise I could have gotten you into contact with two of my best RL buddies who happen to be pretty good Ruby on rails developers, creators of stuff like phusion passenger etc. used by some very big c...
I've stayed at this excellent hotel two trips for a total of six weeks - But as i mentioned this before (scroll up) - Oak hotel sadly went out of business this summer after the events of the Tohoku earthquake caused a steep decline in tourism and the...
Yeah it's quite a shame and it took my by surprise. I like the area too; I always stay in Ueno when i go to Tokyo. I made another suggestion in this thread (see below somewhere) It's Weekly Mansion Tokyo - Ueno location. It is actually 30 seconds wal...
Your welcome :) If you have any other questions about WMT/Ueno area in general or what not feel free to ask!
And yes; Sakura house is something I would also recommend for people who'd wish to stay for longer durations. I myself go to Japan 2 times...
My personal recommendation goes to - Weekly mansion Tokyo. Or "WMT" for short.
WMT differs slightly from a regular hotel in the sense that your not just actually renting a room; no you're renting an small apartment. WWMT owns several large apartmen...
Unfortunatly, Oak Hotel went out of business at the start of this summer. The cause? Bad business after the Tohoku earthquake. It's a shame, I quite loved Oak hotel and I've stayed there two times and enjoyed my stay. The staff was incredibly friendl...
Damnit. it's such a shame the building has to go. As somebody else has said; it has so much character and atmosphere walking in there. And the freaky way the stairs/escalators are layed out just had something unique. Damn I wish I had taken more pict...
@Danny: What I use for mobile data/communications when I go abroad?
Simple; my own phone (in this case a HTC desire Z)
I have Vodafone as my provider; they have this free thing called "Vodafone passport"
Once enabled; it allows me to go abroad an...
Great restaurant :) They are open till late usually when i'm about to leave the arcades to go back to my hotel I quickly nab some late night Katsudon here!
Thanks, that helps allot. As the only option to fly into Japan from Amsterdam with direct flights is Narita.
I always stay in Ueno when I'm in Japan so I'm used to travelling directly from Narita to Ueno by Keisei Skyliner express; guess that optio...
How is the public transport doing Danny? I heard some friends had to leave home early because some train lines weren't running due to blackouts. I take it the JR Yamanote line isn't affected by these blackouts as it runs trough central Tokyo in a loo...
Don't be surprised; I have quite allot of pictures on Sunday mornings where the streets are absolutely deserted too; crisis or no crisis - there are times where you can find streets deserted or even trains with just a handful of occupants in the whol...
Interesting, I personally will be in Tokyo in 2 weeks and usually just take the Keisei Skyliner directly from Narita to Ueno; then walk a little bit to the place I always stay which is near Inaricho station some 10 or so minutes walking from the Keis...
The best one I've been to in the Netherlands also happens to be the biggest one held in a nice posh location. It's "Animecon" held from the 6th till the 8th of May.
Website: http://www.animecon.nl/
Aside from Dutch people, anime fans from the neig...
Ah ! Eneloop batteries. Every photographer should have these. They don't discharge power over time like regular rechargable batteries; so their always standing by when you need them. I have 16 of them for my various photo equipment :)
Nice Axelay reference Danny; to date it's still one of my favorite SCHMUP's.
At any rate, nice giveaway action! I was actually going to take pictures of my room this week, so this follows in nicely. Thank god the deadline is the 28th, because I'm a...
