Wow, I'd have to say that everything looks appertising to me. I can't go past a nice steaming bowl of ramen, no matter what flavour. I just love the food posts Danny. Thanks for making my day.
Funnily enough I just made my version of Japanese curry two nights ago with one medium and two hot curry bricks. I go heavy handed on the potato, onion and carrots and a little lighter on the meat. I simmer it for hours and it melts in your mouth. I...
Melbourne has a large number of narrow shopping alleyways and arcades, each with its own interesting architecture (including gargoyles and sculptures and ornate fittings). When you walk along the city streets, you stumble across them which then leads...
Well done Danny. It was great to hear you speaking in Japanese for longer than a few minutes. I am in awe of your language skills and it is certainly something for all of us who want to learn the language to aspire to.
Thanks for sharing this special moment with us, Joseph. I could almost feel that sense of excitement as you were telling the story. I also love the sharing of hot sake in winter.
Can't always read Japanese because I don't know much kanji yet so sometimes it is hard to read the broken sentences that come from reading kana and kanji mixed together. I can speak some Japanese though so Omurice o kudasai usually does the trick :)
I fully intend to do Level 4 in the next few years. I have to finish my thesis as a first priority but look forward to plunging myself back into the Japanese language with gusto after that.
That looks so unbelievably good. Love the crockery too! We have many organic cafes to choose from in Melbourne but the prices are sometimes a bit prohibitive.
I know what you mean! I have only ever been to Japan in the autumn which is so lovely in itself but would also love to see at least one Hanami season before I die!!
We are having a particularly hot November her in Australia. Melbourne is warm enough at 36 deg C today but think about everyone that lives in Adelaide where it will get to 43 deg C. The autumn month of April is also exceptionally nice to be alive.
Hubby and I tried a pizza at a place called Aloha Pizza in Narita near U-city hotel when we were there a few years ago. It was a SPAM pizza. We were a bit worried but it actually tasted acceptable. They did the best garlic fries I've tasted too!
I haven't been to HK or Vancouver but will hopefully go to Seattle in June next year. In the meantime Melbourne is fantastic for Chinese food, especially in China Town, Little Bourke Street.
I often go to a ramen bar as a reward for working on the computer. I take hard copies of what I have been writing to edit and proof read. Find it much easier editing a hard copy first when you can see Figure numbers and captions etc.
I would gladly eat ramen every day. I would love the toppings to be tamagoyaki (one of the yummiest things ever), tofu, very finely minced chicken mince and chilli with a shoyu base. YUMM
What a wonderful few days you must have had near Fujisan. I cookded shabu shabu for my husband on our tenth wedding anniversary a few years back and we just loved it. It was one way that I could show him how much I loved him.... through food and Asah...
Hi Danny, I have a concern. The tokyo live bloggers page has dropped off your home page on my Mac. There is a new section for facebook but I can't figure out how to get live blogging back and I don't think I can live without it.
I ate at a Tibetan restaurant called Wild Yak. It was great, we had Momo for entree (like gyoza but filled with spiced beef), followed by lean beef cooked with loads of garlic and chilli and roti. Delicious.
