Head over to WordPress.com or Blogger.com to sign up for an account to have a feel. Once you feel you like it and quite comfortable and feel a need to get your own domain, make more customizations done, then maybe instead of paying them a premium pricing for changes/domain.
You can maybe check out web hosting companies. Pros and cons to that. Pros. You have more flexibility in getting your own host. More storage space and many other features to list.
