Have you really thought this though? I think you should consider what you want to do and not what the final product is. It's fun to watch anime but remember that you watch a whole episode at a time. If you translate you might watch the same short part say 20 times to pick up what they are actually saying and figure out how to translate it in the timeframe you have for English speech or subtitles. This is nothing like watching the end product. I know that if you give English speech then you might only be able to watch the locations where ... ( View formatted comment » )

technically boot camp is dual boot. Apple just added a really easy setup tool and a tool to split a HD into two partitions (even without losing data on the current paartition if you have enough free space) Also dual boot have never been a problem on mac. The system just need to know which partition to boot from. You don't have to use a boot loader. You can even hold down keys to select a different boot disk whlie booting. Macs has worked this way for more than 15 years. ( View formatted comment » )

Just owning such a DVD is enough to arrest a person in Europe (Presuably also in USA/Canada). The reason for this is to protect the children from abuse. This girl will most likely develop mental problems due to this eventually (if not before, then during puperty). ( View formatted comment » )

I had kernel panic when I tried to add hardware where the documentation claimed it not to work with OSX. Took me like 3-4 crashes to figure out a pattern and hacked it to accept it (which then worked flawlessly). Apart from that I only had one kernel panic. I think it was in OSX 10.2. Considering I own 4 macs (ok, only two are used on a daily basis) with OSX and that they are used for EVERYTHING then I say the OS itself is pretty stable. ( View formatted comment » )

I don't really care about sports on TV. I really hate that the TV news more or less only care about the Olympics. I mean the length of the news are reduced to almost half of normal and they even talk about the Olympics in the news. It's like local news aren't important because everybody are supposed to do nothing but watch sports. ( View formatted comment » )

no replies in over two months. I wonder if that is because people has nothing to add or if it's because I wrote so much that people just skip it. I put a great deal into summarizing what professionals teach at anti bullying sessions combined with personal experience (basically those two goes hand in hand) and I really hope that people at least read it. Now I have a very simple question: did anybody read this? ( View formatted comment » )

For all we know this could be due to a change in the power grid. The transformer supplying your house might be heavier loaded and due to that the voltage can drop. I guess you should have this checked. A simple voltmeter would do the trick. If your power supply is so weak/unstable then I really recommend an UPS since it would prevent system lockups due to voltage spikes. Generally I consider the investment of an UPS to be worth the investment as you can keep the UPS when you replace the computer so they last longer than other computer utilitie... I just had a new idea on what could be wrong. When the computer starts it draws a lot of power. This will in turn make the voltage drop for a short while if your power supply (for the house, not the PSU) is heavily loaded compared to how much it can handle. If the voltage drops below the minimum needed for the computer it dies. What you can do about it... well you can shorten the length of wire between the fusebox and the computer (like using a different power outlet and no extension cord) or you can use an UPS. However I would be more concern... ( View formatted comment » )

looks like none of the "normal" errors are present here so now we will have to make up unlikely ideas about what could be wrong. The only thing I can think of is the one thing I didn't believe in earlier which is static electricity. Somehow your computer could build up more than it could handle. What to do about it... well you could try to ground it. You could also go with Apple's advice when they had static electricity problems with a certain mac (I think this was more than 20 years ago). Their advice was to lift the comput... ( View formatted comment » )

this might sound obvious but have you checked the power cord and tried a known good one? I have seen both short circuited (melted) and ones where the connectors are broken on the inside and there were nothing to see on the outside. I don't think it's a grounding issue as modern computers can do just fine without grounding (note: if the computer isn't grounded it can build up quite a voltage in the case compared to say an external HD... beware) ( View formatted comment » )

I tried "Mirai" and they were big. I then tried "Mirai suenaga" and they were really small. Then I tried "Mirai Suenaga" and they were average. Looks like it makes some sort of checksum on the string and selects an image based on the result.... kind of pointless but still somewhat funny for a short while. ( View formatted comment » )

I generally don't like walkthroughs. Whenever I'm really stuck somewhere I use a page called "universal hint system" ( http://www.uhs-hints.com/ ) The idea is that you click on whatever you are stuck on and it will give you a hint. If that's not enough then you can get another hint on the same thing and so on. Eventually it will give you the solution. Doing it this way will ensure that you only get the info you need and you will not risk read... ( View formatted comment » )

I once saw somebody trying to make a goal on one of these games. He hit the upper part of the goal with such great force that it bounced back and hit his own goal so fast that nobody could react to it.... I want to see that happen on a game of this size XD ( View formatted comment » )

I like kids and I like maids but in a totally different way. Mixing those two are no good. Considering we know how some guys think about maids and specially that those guys tend to show in Akihabara then I consider it wrong to let your child dress like this. I like the comment though. "She’s probably someone’s child". Most children belong to "someone" (usually referred to as parents or guardians). ( View formatted comment » )

I guess it's a matter of taste if you want eroge or not. The first time I saw a bishojo game I thought "interesting. It looks like nice 2D girls and they will show you their... eyes too it seems" so I decided to give it a try. At the time the eyes finally showed up I found myself quickly clicking and thinking "now get done with that stuff. I want to know what happens next in the story". I guess this is basically how I treat bishojo games today and I think they are pretty interesting. For the record: I'm a guy. ( View formatted comment » )

First computer was a Commodore 64. Funny thing happened around a year ago. During lunch somebody mentioned how it was back when people had C64 but nobody had seen them for ages. I couldn't resist but to break in with a true statement "I booted mine yesterday". I was kind of like a hero for the following 5 minutes or so. I'm not sure I have used it since though but I know where it is and can set it up again in no time. What really surprises me is that the disks are still usable. I mean they are like 20 years old and I can s... ( View formatted comment » )

who knows? I read somewhere that it's possible to get ice cream in Japan made from human milk and that it should taste somewhat decent. I don't know if it were a joke though. I saw how they make expensive beefs on TV once. The cattle is given sake on a daily basis and they get sake sprayed on their fur. I'm not sure if it really improves the quality that much (specially the spraying on fur thing) but I can imagine that it makes the beef expensive specially because everything was manually done. It's not that hard to figure out. Look at this photo http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3324192 The roadblock is to indicate that cars aren't allowed to pass. They are easy to move for the police and also cars that speeds up to get through them. ( View formatted comment » )

This link started by showing me a commercial for MSN. The message in it was that it could be scary to sit face to face with people. Since it now involves Microsoft I guess somebody could get a kick out of making a conspiracy theory based on this. ( View formatted comment » )

they might think that you have some sort of wound which can contaminate the water with bacteria and reject you based on this. I wouldn't count on a more freely view of gaijin as some places also bans gaijin because of a history with problematic drunken Russian sailors. The best advice I can give would be to stay away from piercings, tattoos and stuff like that. It's not uncommon that people with (legally earned) money look down on this and since those are usually the people hiring workers for their companies it affects your job oppor... Generally I'm against public nudity while I don't mind the old statues. The reason is that the statues act normally and the normally covered parts are just part of the body. Today if somebody makes something exposed then it's most often an act of exhibitionism or meant as a provocation of decent people. The natural view on the human body is rarely seen anymore. I think the reason is that in ancient Greece they didn't have proper clothing so they had to move carefully in order not to end up naked in public by accident. Whene... ( View formatted comment » )

actually there are protests against slaughtering cows. It's not for saving the cows but to ensure that they will not suffer a painful death. Normally cows are taken in one by one and shot in the brain by a bolt pistol. The brain dies instantly and they can't feel a thing (or at least not for long). However some cows aren't butchered like this and there are protests against painful slaughtering. It's kept at a minimum though because the issue is ritual butchering of animals according to Islam where the animal bleeds to death ... ( View formatted comment » )
