Well when you think about it, the Japanese people ARE demanding AND supporting whaling. It's basic economics that without demand, a product will fail. In this case, whale meat. If the people stop purchasing whale meat for now, the suppliers of whale meat would surely respond. I'm not sure where I've read it but a poll showed that 60% of Japanese people (by memory, the majority of the 60% were older people) support whaling. Don't get me wrong, I love Japan just as much as the next person in here. To be honest, I don't really care about the slaughtering of whales for food or whatever. But the endangered whales that are being killed should be left alone to breed for a bit so that the numbers can increase. Wouldn't it be better to stop eating whales for a year or so to ensure that there are whale meat for the future?
