Tachibana's in Shinjuku West. I even had a frequent shopper card. ^_^;;; I have absolutely no qualms about going into such a shop, unlike here in Australia, where they make it seem like the worst crime possible, just through the many corners you have to turn before you enter (so absolutely nothing untoward can be seen from the street). And then all they sell is toys... And about 90% of them are for women, whereas in a japanese equivalent shop, it'd be 50/50 if not in favour of the guys... I miss being able to get decent dolphin wax... ( View formatted comment » )

I think it's universal. In Japan, I usually try to go to a public toilet at a train station (the JR ones are pretty good nowadays) or at a MacD's when I have to. They're usually the best. When I came down with gastro in February (while out and about), I had to stop every two stations on the Sobu and Keihin-Tohoku Lines on my way back to the hotel, and most toilets were in immaculate condition, WITH paper provided. The Tenga ones are disposable single-use ones, but as a result, they manage to sell them at a pretty reasonable price, Amazon Japan sells them for just under 1000yen. I'll admit to having bought a couple of models out of curiosity, and they're just as good as the re-usable ones. Reusable health care material is more expensive, and you do have to put up with proper washing, which can be, not to be too delicate, icky... ( View formatted comment » )

I became bilingual at age 14 when we moved from Germany to Australia. In our family, we now speak a mix of English and German (lazy, if a word is shorter in one language, we use it). Of course, this confuses our german relatives to no end. Became fully fluent in English in about the first five years, full immersion and all that. While I can very easily flip back and forth between both languages both verbally and thinking, the same cannot be said for English and Japanese (at least for me). I noticed that, when I lived in Japan, I would find my... ( View formatted comment » )

I have recently had to curtail my reading, as my workplace introduced a new firewall system, and DannyChoo.com is listed in its blacklist... v_v So I can only browse after work, and there I mostly limit myself to the general Japan posts (I've lived in Japan myself for five years), unless it's a figure of either a) a character I really like, or b) looks excessively well made. I only ever buy pre-assembled/painted figures, as I'm hopeless and have no time to do it myself. Other things I come to the site for are the idol/gravu... ( View formatted comment » )

Had a Wii since it's debut. My stepson played lots of games on it (he's 21, I'm 40). I used to use the Wii about once a week... However, since we got the WiiFit about three weeks ago, I've been on the Wii almost daily doing exercises and just having fun with the WiiFit games. This is one of the best motivators for losing weight, especially when everyone else in the family joins in. ( View formatted comment » )

I was so disappointed by episode 1 of Strike Witches. I first saw the little concept toys for this about three years ago and thought this looked really cute with some neat weapon design combinations. And sadly now we have a show that rivals Aika in panty shots and especially with the loli aspects... I can't even remember anything about the story of the episode just because I was cringing so much. That actually looks like one of the guys from the comedy due Rahmens... For those who haven't seen them in action, search Youtube for "Rahmens" and/or "Japanese Tradition". ^_^ These guys are hilarious. ( View formatted comment » )

Just because the aussie media is having a bloody feeding frenzy over this whole art vs. child porn issue doesn't mean that you have to go overboard. The whole thing is just nuts, and if you agree to tape your eyes shut and flush all your caches if you happen to stumble into something objectionable, then the aussie government may as well erase everyone's brains, otherwise those memories could be counted as the same guilty evidence. Quietly accepting what is happening in Australia right now is NOT the way to go. The government alr... ( View formatted comment » )

Actually, the Daleks had basic floatation since the 7th Doctor's Remembrance of the Daleks. Of course it's a lot better now. I'm not too crazy about the new Cybermen, though. They are just too different. The Master was excellent, though. ( View formatted comment » )

Danny, You should catch up on Doctor Who, it's even on Japanese TV now. The revival for the last four years has been amazing, Christopher Eccleston completed one season, followed by three seasons of David Tennant. Kylie's even been on it (last year's Xmas special). This last weekend the current season ended, with the next season now not scheduled until 2010. The producer for the last four years has been Russell T. Davies, who has a huge passion for the series. The seasons have had great continuing storylines (1 hour epis... ( View formatted comment » )

Just like with anything, there's a certain amount of low-quality in anime... I stopped watching ToLoveRu, primarily because I just had so much else of a higher interest for me to watch. But I do love the well-done moe anime, especially when it's not just cheesecake, but is a bit of slice of life, like Minami-ke. ( View formatted comment » )

Easily buy. I would be very surprised if a seiyuu like Saori-chan would have to hawk her DVDs like this... I am very surprised she's not getting mobbed. ( View formatted comment » )

Artificial Girl 3 or Schoolmate are not "make a girl" games per se. You cannot control the girls directly. In AG3 you get to create different body-size/shape/voice/psychological trait combinations, but the point thereafter is pure H. You place the girls inside your world (a small section of neighbourhood) and then try to seduce them. ( View formatted comment » )

Five years ago, credit cards were still relatively rare, but this has largely changed by now. Many businesses, including Gamers, *DO* accept credit card nowadays, but the take-up rate by people is still pretty low. Credit cards seem to be more a thing to use on overseas trips and for online purchases. People in everyday life don't seem to use them much yet. I think it's to do with the hassle of having to swipe a card, sign a slip of paper, etc. It slows down the queues somewhat, and people are wary of inconveniencing others. Far...
