Well before the Internet, I were into CBBS/BBS back in 1986, in 1990 I got my 1st Internet access on Campus (I could access from home too). In 1996 I build an entire ISP from scratch and it was more than sufficient to support over 10000 lines (that's right!), I used Linux in 95% of company, the 5% remainder were used for Support staff (Windows) and .5% for Cisco IOS (router).
