I still remember my first time in Japan and needing to go... at a mall. Oh man. I went in the bathroom, and opened the stall - and OMG! Where the hell is the toilet! It's a hole and shit's all over the floor. actual shit! Forget this. I just held it until I got to my buds place. That's where I saw the most advanced toilet in the world courtesy of Toto. You should buy a Holga. The images that come out of these cameras are unique. They're pretty cheap but they only take film, but I'll probably buy one in the near future. Some links to Holga images. http://flickr.com/photos/21898235@N06/2462581113/ http://flickr.com/photos/10403675@N06/2405409120/ ( View formatted comment » )

A lot of companies in California have "MBA required" in their job postings. Some companies have "or x experience" but I'm finding a lot of companies don't even have that anymore. Some have "PhD required" for mid-level jobs. Which I think is crazy for some of the jobs I've seen that required a PhD or MBA. Now I'm all for higher education, but some of these guys with PhDs have NO experience in the corporate world. They have their own pace. I'm generalizing, but this is from seeing guys com... been awhile since i read the book, but Rico came from Brazil(?) but his ancestry is Filipino which we learn in a roundabout way at the end of the book. I'd think he'd be a bit on the brownish side, with black hair, but would he look Filipino or a mix? ( View formatted comment » )

Used to eat a whole box of glaze donuts after I got home almost every other day... but that was when it opened up in Burbank a few years ago. Haven't touched it since... now I have an urge to drive up there.... but gas is to expensive :( ( View formatted comment » )

I was in Fukuoka with a big ass DSLR walking around, and my buddy told me to put it in the bag. This is not Tokyo. Think he was paranoid. ( View formatted comment » )

smog was pretty bad a few decades ago. I don't really notice it in Los Angeles. Maybe I'm just used to it, but it's no better or worse than the San Francisco bay area or San Diego. Thing is, Los Angeles is so spread out that it's going to depend on your area. I live in the west side near santa monica, culver city and the palms area and it's pretty good over here. Tons of restaurants from all over the world on the side of the road when you're driving on Venice. ( View formatted comment » )

Los Angeles isn't that dangerous, but it's not as safe as the cities in Japan. ughh, well... going as a tourist, most of the places you'd be going to are pretty safe at day time :) ( View formatted comment » )

That was the train station - Union Station, it's right south of Olvera street. I used to ride the train to downtown a few years ago. Olvera st is the birthplace of Los Angeles. You should check it out next time, lots of restaurants, festivals and small stalls selling stuff. If you go to J-town near the Japanese cultural center, check out the shabu shabu restaurant. There's only one that has a long line outside its door every freaking day, so you can't miss it. So gooooood. ( View formatted comment » )

The tank looks pretty cool. Once you click on that second link and watch the video of the tank that comes with the game, it reminds me of a wind-up car - from the noise that it makes. The graphics on this game looks incredible. ( View formatted comment » )

"Anime is the reason why every good cartoon from here in america and all the world have gone down in ratings and been forced to be cancelled" The tiresome plot lines of American cartoons pretty much killed it. Oh wait, what plots? However, long length animated movies are pretty good. ( View formatted comment » )

I had one bad experience with a cop... It's a workday and I get off the red line on to Figueroa in downtown Los Angeles. As I walk to the office, I see a motorcycle cop talking to this woman. Doesn't bother me, but I'm thinking, damn this this guy is lazy. Now there's a walk sign that is broken, anyone who works in the area knows it doesn't work, so you watch the light turn red... so I walk without even thinking... and next thing I hear is a siren from that same cop. I tell him what the deal is... and he ignores ... ( View formatted comment » )
