It may be because it's edited by french speaking algerians as wel as french people of algerian origins who can have very different opinions about colonisation, war, etc... Also those old stats show only about 2K edits for the article about Algeria which is not a lot for the description of a country BTW, single users often make dozens or hundreds of edits on some articles , that doesn't necessarily mean much, it includes correction of typos etc.. Actually since 2004 EDF is a regular company (one can buy shares), government still has a majority of the shares though. Nuclear energy costed a hell of a lot of money to develop over time, so i'm not really sure whether the cost of electricity is lower than with other energies, especially since nuclear power plants can't run forever and have to be replaced, there is one next to where i live, they said it wuld take 50 years to dismantle... As for the cost of electricity, I pay around EUR 50 every 2 months (including a lot of taxes) a ... ( View formatted comment » )

The important thing is the video format not the region of the disc, US (R1) and Japan (R2) both use NTSC video so no conversion is necessary for the video stream, it would be a waste of time and a useless extra cost so the quality is probably exactly the same... On the other hand European R2 DVDs require NTSC to PAL conversion which decreases quality a little... ( View formatted comment » )

Actually that study showed that for their hdds that were 3 years old or older, the annualized failure rate of drives running above 45c was 3 times higher (15% !) than those running at 30c, so temps do not do "nothing"... The problem is also that if the temp rises above max temp it can be recorded in the SMART informations and can void the warranty... ( View formatted comment » )

I use Speedfan to monitor all temps including HDDs, not sure if it works over USB though (I only use eSata) If you run your drives in fanless enclosures temperature monitoring is critical since drive temp can easily rise 25 celsius above ambient (sometimes more depending on the number of platters), for most drives max temp is usually around 55 celsius (but of course it's not recommended to use them at max temp for a long time...) I used to make backups on DVD-R but they are too small now and BD-R are too expensive here, HDDs are a lot chea... ( View formatted comment » )

Price depends on the brand and timings too, cheaper sticks are usually generic ddr2-800 with 5 or even 6 CAS latency and won't support overclocking (sometimes they don't even work reliably but you only see this when you test them with a bootable memtest86 CD). That being said the good sticks are quite cheap too here nowadays, I had trouble selling the good CL4 G-Skill sticks I had before for EUR 15/GB and it was already a few months ago... In France you can get 2 GB sticks of decent ddr2-800 memory for aroud EUR 34 (Kingston brand... ( View formatted comment » )

I don't agree with him on the 'just burn the plastics' thing, most plastics are also made out of oil , and oil is not renewable, hence we have to recycle plastics too in the end... Also the 'high tech' burners he is talking about, that would not pollute atmosphere with things like PCDDs and whatnot do not currently exist (and where do you put the filtered pollution in the end anyway ?)
