I'm on the Hibiya subway line again heading back across Tokyo to the office having only left it 2 hours ago - I just remembered when I got home that I'd left the water heater on ><

Whenever I'm on trains though I have to do something else apart from just sit there, whether it's study, read, or more commonly update my Twitter and Facebook feeds!

Tonight though I've decided to watch another DVD - having just got our first TV and discovered the vast majority of terrestrial TV is absolute pants (that's British English meaning 'trash'), I've been visiting Japan's no. 1 video rental chain, Tsutaya, and getting some TV dramas ('Attention Please' and 'Kekkon dekinai otoko' so far). It's a good way to take my mind off all this time I'm spending turning a water heater off!

What do you do when travelling? People watch? Study? Twitter?

Forgetful Joseph

P.s the photo is of the opening sequence of another DVD I rented - 『ジョゼと虎と魚たち』(じょぜととらとさかなたち)

      I haven't, I'll check it out!

An update on my post (it's about 20 mins later)

so I got back to the office, and found that the outer door (to which I don't have a key) is locked - it's usually open. So I phoned the number by the door for out-of-hours support thinking that they could just unlock it remotely. They tell me that as I'm not registered they're going to have to call the president of the company and check with him (gah!), then send someone out. So now I'm waiting on the pavement watching the DVD...

10 mins later: a guy turned up on a scooter. He looked at me, looked at my ID card for a second (I swear he didn't read it!) and then phoned the security company office asking them to unlock. The door magically opened.

I've turned the kettle off and am heading home, writing the apologetic email to the president in my head as I walk to the station!

It didn't quite end there. I dropped ice cream all over the keyboard on the train. Then, they started having sex in the film and the obachan next to me nearly passed out.

Quite an eventful evening. As I've been advised by fellow live blogger Steve Nagata on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/stevenagata and I'm http://www.twitter.com/tamegoeswild), I'll go straight to bed so nothing else can happen!

Looks like you didn't have a pleasant day. Don't worry though. It can't get any worse, right?

BTW what's the title of that film you're watching? LOL XD

Sorry to hear about your evening mate.
I'm also very sorry that I couldn't stop laughing when reading your posts :P
I just hope your laptop's fine and that the obachan sitting next you isn't a neighbor of yours who starts to spread rumors about 'that ecchi gaijin'.

Don't eat ice cream around your laptop, especially on the train! Bad bad bad. XD

You need one of those covers for your laptop screen- the kind they use on cellphones so other people can't see what you're looking at (and only you can because you're looking straight at it)? You know what I mean? I think I saw some for computer screens...

I know what you mean Jse[h. I made the mistake of watching Borat on the plane flight across to New Zealand last week. When the wrestling scene came on between Borat and his Russian bodyguard I went as red as anything because I couldn't figure out how to stop the movie. I had a few people around me wondering what sort of girl I was!!!! Oh well, it was bloody funny.

The way your day is going I bet the obachan reported the incident and next time you are at the station there is a warning poster about a hentai gaijin, who makes decent people pass out by showing them indecent stuff :P

I'm sorry to hear about the ice cream. I guess it is kind of dangerous to bring ice cream or similar on a train. I was once pouring water (luckily only water) into a cup and the train hit a bad section of tracks and the whole carriage shaked and boom, I had wet pants. Worst accident I have heard about due to uneven tracks has to be the one about the conductor, who returned to his desk and found his vacuum jug in his bag and it was empty. It had contained coffee and was on the desk when he left it. Lucky for him nobody asked why the daily report were written on brown paper that day xD

Same as Xcomp...except without the emo bit. I just listen to music and watch the world go by while on the train.

Sounds like you need to implement Shisa Kanko.... XD

If it's a short subway hop, I usually check dannychoo on my iPhone or play Trism (an iPhone puzzle game). When I'm traveling a long distance or on the Shinkansen, I read, listen to music, or sleep. Staring out the window is always an option too ^_^

well when i used to get the train to work i would read the newspaper and listen to some music, maybe occasionally play my PSP/DS. Now i drive to work i cant really do that, i think its illegal to read the paper while driving :) so i listen to the radio instead

You *think* it's illegal to read while driving? You are by law required to drive safely and this includes not reducing your vision of the road ahead. This general description covers everything from reading and wearing glasses (if needed) to not being blindfolded or placing any type of cargo in front of the driver. For once the politicians came up with a general law, which bans stupid behaviour they didn't even think of when they made the law and for some reason most (all?) countries made a traffic law like this.

This doesn't stop lorry drivers from reading newspapers or books while driving though, which is rather scary. The police considers them a serious danger as they do not even notice marked policecars recording their lack of attention on video.
