After wreaking havoc across south east Asia, Super Typhoon Melor is now on it's way to Tokyo. It's the first tropical cyclone to hit in 2 years, and unlike most typhoons seems unlikely to blow itself out until after it's passed over Honshu. At the moment it's the calm before the storm, but tomorrow looks like it's going to be pretty grim.
But I'm prepared! Not just wIth my amazing 500 yen 65cm umbrella, but also my bright yellow rain coat and Tilley hat! I may look line a fool, but hey, I'll be a dry fool.
Batten down the hatches!

really bad timing .. because of the this most of the agents wouldn't be able to make it for All Japan Plamodel Hobby Show in Makuhari ^w^;; but not that I hate typhoons .. I'm somehow attached to weathers like this because of my name XD
According to my friend this is the strongest typhoon@162kph to land within the last 10 years XD

In the West Coast of Canada the level of rain in that photo (or a lot more) falls most days (in the fall/winter).
Just listen to the rain on metal sound and fall asleep :P

I don't get umbrellas. Most of the time its raining its too windy to use an umbrella, but a rain jacket always seems to work.
Just get a wet suit, if you think it'll look weird, put a storm trooper outfit over it, nobody will be able to tell.

That's one thing I've noticed here in Japan (at least in the cities) - rain coats don't seem to be so popular. Looking around at people in the street this morning, most people just had umbrellas and no jackets at all. Usually of course there's not much wind, but if it picks up during the day today there's going to be a lot of broken umbrellas and wet people!
When I wore my yellow rain jacket to work the other day I was greeted by my japanese co-workers asking me if I was going to go climb a mountain! It seems they thought I was a little overdressed. We'll see who gets the last laugh when Typhoon Melor hits!

This is a thing I don't get. Why don't people have proper protection against rain? Sure an umbrella is nice to have compared to having nothing, but it's no good on say a bike. If you have to do some work outside it's also no good not to have both hands free.

Thanks @Shibuya246 @spyone The rain has now arrived in Tokyo, really bucketing it down. It looks like the core of the storm will miss us thankfully.
A lot of companies will not be opening their offices tomorrow. Ours is not one of them, although somewhat bizarrely we have been told we can have a 'casual clothes day' instead...!
