It's Friday night, and the start of Silver Week, a special 5-day holiday that's being held for the first time this year. Walking through the streets of Maranouchi, the area around Tokyo Station, you can feel the excitement in the air as workers pour out of their offices and into bars and restaurants.
I'm meeting friends at a bar just across the road from Tokyo International Forum, an amazing fish-shaped building with glass walls and floating walkways.
Looking around me there's nothing but happy faces!
Do you have any special holidays at this time of year?

There aren't any special holidays down in my neck of the woods, that I can recall. Then again being a uni student, I don't get a few of the public holidays.

Danny may not, and I rarely do! I find the following day I feel a bit hazy even if I've only had a pint! Tonight was a special occasion^^

'Silver Week' is a term that I think the media has come up with just recently to describe this year's three-day holiday. Here's why it happened this year:
"September 21 (the third Monday of September) is Respect for the Aged Day called "Keirou-no-hi", and September 23 is Autumn Equinox Day ("Shubun-no-hi") in 2009. Since any day falls between two national holidays becomes a national holiday called "kokumin no kyujitsu" in Japan, September 22 is a national holiday in 2009." (from About.com)

Interesting, I'm guessing it's called Silver Week because of Golden Week earlier in the year? Sounds like a good idea really :)
The building looks pretty amazing, loving all the random walkways up there! An armour pic would be very suiting... very space-age. :D

I don't think we have any week's holiday unless people take a few more days off on a 3-day weekend XD
Nice building... I thought it was a boat at first glance.
