Cycling is big in Japan, especially in the cities where a space to
park your car could cost as much as renting a small apartment.
Of course, the popularity of cycling leads to another problem - where
do you park your bike? Whilst there are official bicycle parking lots
(often underground), they can also be pretty expensive.
For businesses located near railway stations it can be a real problem,
as when they open up for the day they'll find a row of bikes parked
outside their window, left there by people who caught early morning
trains
That's where the happy traffic cone comes in! Here's one near our
local station. The happy face is typical of Japan, where warning signs
of all kinds are made more friendly by adding cute characters.
What kind of business do you think this cone is outside?
