One trademark of Akiba is Gachapon machines everywhere. Gachapon are vending machines that spit out little plastic balls with toys inside. The name comes from the gacha-gacha sound made by the machine when you turn the dial to get your toy.
When I was a kid I remember begging my mom for quarters to get toys from these machines, but she usually would say no.
Now there are much nicer thing in the machines but they are lots more expensive.
