In Yodobashi Camera in Akiba now and saw this wall of prepaid cards for Japanese online games.
Credit cards are pretty rare for kids in Japan so it much easier to gather customers using prepaid cards. These cards can be used to pay monthly fees, add cedits to buy stuff online or download special rare contents.
Also a lot of people prefer to collect the cards themselves as they have nice pictures of characters on them. I don't play any online games myself but I think it might be fun if I have more time.
