Tokyo Hair Cut

Getting the monthly bowl haircut again. I've had the same hairdresser
cut my hair since 2005. She plays baseball, occasionally plays the
guitar in a band and she cant be bothered to turn on her computer so
does all her internet browsing via her mobile phone.
Chris was telling me how the barbers he goes to vacuums his head when
they finished cutting his hair. I wasn't too sure whether to beleive
him until I walked past a barber and saw somebody having their head
vacuumed ^^;
Do they vacuum your head in your neck of the woods?

現在髪の毛斬ってもらっているところ。2005年から同じ方に斬ってもらっている。彼女は野球やギターをやっていて、パソコンの起動がめんどいので、インターネットは全て携帯でやっている。

    Nice that you have a regular stylist! I recently found a taiwanese girl to cut my hair and am quite happy with her work, but she may move in 1-2 years it seems ^^;

    I have never heard of the stylist vacuum the hair. Usually they just have you wash your hair again, then blow dry. It gets most of the cut hair out I guess?

      Yes, that's more common here in Germany too. Using a vacuum cleaner would be faster (and maybe thus cheaper as well?), though. I rather take my time at the barber's (and enjoy a head massage afterwards as well), but there are folks which just have to rush there during their lunch break, so I can see a potential demand (because nobody wants to leave a trail of hair at the office afterwards)...

    Yes the NT$100 (US$ 3) haircut places are all over the place in Taiwan and they vacuum your hair... in and out within 10 minutes, the last bit of dignity I have prevents me from going to a place where they vacuum my hair....

    the idea of vacuuming seems kind of practical. at least you won't have bits of hair stuck to you.

    I don't really remember my hair being vacuumed. Most of the time they put this what looks like toilet paper around your neck. After they remove that they brush off the remains and your good to go.

        As dirty as he said it, I have never experienced my hair being vacuumed, but I do know it's a usual routine of using the blow-dryer to dry your hair...Often the cut-off remains get blown away with it.

    Just around the neck at the barber shop I go too, and they use a small scented brush to sweep any hairs from your face. -_-'

    I go to a really old guy who immigrated from Japan to California. I think he is over 70 years old, and just cuts hair because it gets him out of the house.

    He owns a barbershop near to my place of work, and uses an old tabletop vacuum cleaner when he is finished cutting my hair. If I go to a Salon, I would expect a washing to get the hair out. I think the difference is really up to price and expectations. You generally pay more at a salon and should expect more service. At a barbershop, you get cut in a more utilitarian manner.

    Hmmm...no vacuum at the last one I went to. (It also being my first cut in Japan.) Although, I did get the wash, brush, and head massage with it. (Although, wash is pretty standard with a cut.) She even styled it at no extra charge. ^^

    My barber, after finishing the hair cut, straight razor shaves the back of your neck, sideburns, then vacuums your head and dusts the hair out of your face. Then they put on a mild cooling after shave and a brief 10 second massage to your neck. If I got my hair washed it would cost another $6 and the vacuuming gets most of the loose hair anyway.

    They don't use the vacuum tube for anything other than people's heads.

    The usual saloon here in MY does not use a vacuum to suck away left over hairs but when my dad enter those cheap barber shop he was shocked that it have vacuum service.

    It's hard to style my hair as my stylist told me that I have some strong hair that does not bend easily T_T

    Some hairdressers do that here as well. I just don't know how common though 'coz I only got to experience that once. The saloon I go to now doesn't do that.

    No mask this time? =3 I think the 'vacuuming' is actually blow away those little bits of hair here and there off your head instead of sucking it. =x Well, it's what happen here.

    they only vacuum your head at japanese budget hairdressers like QB House in singapore. its probably out of practicality more than anything else since those places tend to be too cramped to do a wash or for customers to have their hair blow dried into each other. definitely not at the more 'upmarket' salons.

    having your hair vacuumed feels good! but the quality of the hairdressers can be found wanting.

    Vacuumed? Do you mean using floor vacuum cleaner?
    They don't do that here at Bandung, Indonesia.

    I also come to the same hair stylist since last year :-) , it's feel great treated by hair stylist that know what we want.

    Interesting idea. No hair vacuum, what my hairdresser do is... pour some water over my head to wet it and cut, the hair falls over a cloth that is cover my upper half. Then shaves a little and... nothing else. I don't like those hair driers =/
    I'm going to mention the idea of the hair vacuum to him. ;)

    Yeah, I think I'm over due for a cut. Getting a bit shaggy around the back and side.... Then again, we've been having -20C weather recently, and it does keep the neck a bit warmer. :)

    I'm looking a bit like a "crazy trapper" with my winter hat. (but it is warm.) :p

    I am fortunate in the fact that my sister cuts my hair ^^ However, in about two years, I will have to find somebody in Japan to cut my hair ^^ My grandfather and his borther own a barber shop in my town and they use a vaccum to suck the hair off your neck, shoulders, etc but not the top of your head.
