It's that time again! Get your tickets for the Grand 年末ジャンボ ('nen matsu jumbo') - End of Year lottery - with a grand prize of 300 million yen (US$ 3.3m)!
You'll see lottery ticket booths all over Tokyo. They never seem to be that busy so I don't know how they can be economically viable.
Maybe it's proceeds from the 年末ジャンボ that keeps them going throughout the rest of the year, as in December you'll find a lot of people who don't normally play buying tickets in the hope of winning a prize.
Sometimes you'll find a lottery booth with a huge line in front of it day after day - there's one in Ginza I know that's incredibly popular. Why? They've sold winning tickets there in the past.
I've not played in japan, although I have won the UK lottery a few times - unfortunately only about £10 each time!
How about you? Do you play the lottery?
