Lunch today. "Pizza." Cost about 880 yen. The average cost of lunch in
Tokyo is about 1000 yen but if you go to the same restaurant at night,
you would normally see the prices double or triple for the same meal.
Apparently, most restaurants don't make a profit at lunch time but
need to open to attract punters who hopefully go back in the evening.
Is this normal in your region too? Whats the average cost of lunch in
your neck of the woods?

今日のランチ。880円。よるになると、同じもん注文しても、値段はお昼の2、3倍。なので、外で食べるのはよるが少ない方^^;

Figuring the cost convertion, it's about the same here for a reputable restaurant.
As well as the cost going up by the evening, not double or triple though.
For double and triple it would have to be some super gourmet goodies with innovative ingredient combos.

Anything interesting in that "pizza"? Like squid, tako or maybe a little mayo hiding under the "cheese"?

Actually prices here in California are usually lower for lunch, but then again the serving sizes are smaller too so they don't lose too much over all.

Let's see... the average cost of lunch in Jakarta would be about 15.000 - 25.000 rupiah... that would be roughly 2 USD / 200 yen...

Wow whole mushrooms, they look sort of good and I don't usually want to see veggies on my pizza. Around here, the pizza place near to my house, usually charges around 10.50-16 bucks for a whole pizza, depending on the size.

10 bucks is about right for lunch where I used to work, if you don't prepare your own lunch. There are a few places cheaper, if you don't mind the drive, but the menu is limited. Average lunch over here is 6-8 USD. I never had it double or triple for dinner though(yikes) at the same restaurant. The pricey high end restaurants charge those prices.

Hubby and I tried a pizza at a place called Aloha Pizza in Narita near U-city hotel when we were there a few years ago. It was a SPAM pizza. We were a bit worried but it actually tasted acceptable. They did the best garlic fries I've tasted too!

I have yet to try pizza in Japan. From that pic, it doesn't look like what I'm used to. :/

On Yokosuka base, we have a pretty good pizza place called Anthony's Pizza. Not the best but it's a reminder of home. When we open up the gates to the Japanese a few times a year, the line for Anthony's goes on and on and you can see many carrying several boxes home out the main gate. Guess Japanese love American pizza as much as we do. ^_^

well it depends on where you eat doesn't it? i find that eating out is very popular in Singapore compared to other countries, so you can get simple meals for little, though prices are increasing steadily. that's a problem you don't have in japan.

In Paris, the average cost of helping 20 to 35 euros so 30 to 50 dollars. If you want to have just pizza or a basic lunch. The minimum you'll have to pay is 15$. It is expensive but the food is so much better than anywhere else (except some places in Japan), althought you can still get crap for your lunch.
In France, we are not used to go as much in restaurants as Americans for example because we don't have the culture of fast food and we want to eat in a nice place, having our food served and take our time to eat good food following the tradition.
Besides the restaurant can't afford to lose money during lunch time because of the crisis and their financial problems.

A decent meal in SG is about 6 SGD, just normal rice or noodle in foodcourt with a drink.
In hawker centre, it be 5 SGD, unless one is looking for "special" food that tastes better, it will cost more.

I haven't seen any restaurant in my city increasing prices at night. However, they often have some lunch sets, which are cheaper than regular meals.
The average cost of restaurant meal is, converted to dollars, 7 to 12 dollars, without a drink. But if you choose some extraordinary meal or meal from expensive ingredients (particularly meat and fish), or if you eat at a luxurious restaurant in the center, the price can climb up to 20, even 40 dollars.

I have a question. In Japan, do they make American or Italian pizza?

My country meal average cost is 40 Baht. Although you eat at the famous restaurant or fast food restaurant. The cost isn't more than 200 Baht except you go to the restaurant in five stars hotel or super luxury restaurant.

The price is always the same no matter when you eat.

But you can always eat souvlaki(if you ever come to Greece,EAT souvlaki) which will cost you 1,5€-4€,it's delicious and hearty.

Pizza here cost 8€-16€ (it depends from the size and what kind of pizza it is)

It doesn't have to get a lot more expensive for dinner, but only if you eat at Asian places. Western restaurants have huge discrepancies between lunch and dinner.
