Culture Day National Holiday

Just came back from a run around Komozawa Park, day two of a 16 week training program for the Tokyo Marathon.

As Danny mentioned in an earlier post, today is Culture Day (文化の日), a national holiday first held in 1948 to celebrate Japanese culture and the arts. There's been a lot of mini-festivals going on - and a lot of people just taking it easy.

The park was pretty busy, with groups of children, teenagers and adults playing tennis / baseball / frisby / catch, or just sitting around having picnics. There were a lot of joggers too - good for me as I was able to keep my eyes on their ankles and ignore the tiredness in my legs!

It's almost unbelievable how many public holidays we get here. We don't have a 'Culture Day' in the UK, just a few plain old bank holidays. Just a shame most of them here fall on a Monday - my day off from work anyway!

Does anyone have any advice for someone running a marathon? I've never done it before, and I'm not at all fit!
