The Hibiya subway line is where I spend 5 hours of my life every week. it works out at about ten days a year. That's a long time to spend sitting on a train.

I try and make the most of it, by either studying Japanese (using iAnki), catching up on podcasts, or drawing elephants (a hobby of mine).

Sometimes I'm too tired to be active like that, and instead start to make up stories about the people around me.

I imagine what there lives are like when they're not on this train.

I think these two people have very different stories to tell.

He's been told he'll be out of a job soon because of the recession, but he can't bring himself to tell his wife and children. He's desperately trying to find work, but no-one wants to hire someone his age.

The next two months are going to be really tough, until one day he can't take it any more and goes out and gets really drunk in a local izakaya. He meets another man in the same situation who happens to have a guitar with him.

They start to sing the blues, and discover that they sound really good together. 6 months later they're on national TV with their hilarious salaryman comedy show - and it's only then that his secret double life is revealed to his family.

The girl? She's just met this boy. They've been talking online for months, but tonight was the first time they'd actually met. She's confused about her feelings. Love, lust, fear.

I wonder who she's emailing, and what she's saying? Is it him? What will the rest of her story be?
