I can now reveal the contents of my box yesterday. a SAVPH or "Suddenly Aquired Valkyrie Pilot Helmet". Man it's great writing for dannychoo.com.

I guess it dates me, but my first real exposure to the world of anime was Robotech/Macross. Since then I have always had a weakness for things Macross. I like Frontier, but the original Macross will always be my favorite.
Of course the VF-1 Valkyrie is my all time favorite mech. To be honest I'm not a big figure collector, but I have a very extensive Valkyrie collection. Will post a pic sometime.
But now I have this crowning jewel. A real lifesize Valkyrie pilots helmet fromYamato Toys. This is the ltd edition Hikaru Ichijo DYRL version that was only available to fanclub members.
It is without question, the coolest thing ever.
It's made just for display and the early information noted that this is not a real usable helmet, but it's much better than I was expecting. There is even padding in all the right places so you can wear it, although the visor is locked in position.
One of the product managers from Yanato explained to me why they said you can't wear it. it's actually a lot bigger than you would expect. They made it full 1:1 size realistic so it is the size of a real pilots helmet. According to the design specifications this means it has to have room for the ventilation system and other stuff to make it spaceworthy. Real helmets of course are really big too which is why pilots always rip thier helmets off in movies as soon as they land even though they look cool on. Because with the helmet on they look like they have giant heads and are wobbly from the extra weight.
Also this helmet is a bit fragile and they even included some gloves so I can handle it without smudging prints all over it. definitely wouldn't want to use this as a bike or motorcycle helmet.

I'll put a review up later on Figure.fm with more pics and maybe with it on my head too.

How many of you are Macross fans? Minmei or Misa/Lisa? (or Hikaru/Rick, Roy or Max?)
