Out n about our local shopping arcade and come across this animal
running about. Not sure what it was so picked it up to have a look.
On closer inspection I discover that I still couldn't figure out what
it was ^^; Some sort of ferret?

商店街でみっけたある動物。手に取ってみたのだが、なんなのか分からない^^;

    It most certainly is a ferret. I own one that look just like it. Both ferrets and stoats are part of the same family, Mustelidae. Also they love to steal things, so do be mindful if you let it explore your camera bag or backpack.

    My sister has a ferret (named Nasubi, becaue i mentioned that he was shaped like an eggplant when i first saw him). He's one of the cutest i've seen. Ferrets are great when they're mild-tempered, but Nasubi was pretty crazy when he was young. They can be a handful, but if when they're calm, they're very affectionate and fun. And very cute.

    I used to own some ferrets [well technically they were my brothers but i had to look after them] and the best way to describe them is, in my mind, to imagine a hyperactive 5 year old, whoose just eaten a bag of sugar!

    as for walking them - if theyre used to them from an early age then yes you can walk them like a dog - just dont mind people looking at you and asking why your walking a rat on a lead.

    i gave the ones i had a piece of old capet tube - hours of fun as they played hide and seek using just the tube, or the male would just lie inside and roll the tube up and down the run!

    It's a ferret alright, my niece has one and she does have a lease for her and sometimes walks her outside the house. They are cute pets, very playful, though they do sleep a lot and sometimes it's good to have 2 so they have someone to play with.

    Ferret!

    I had a ferret who passed away a few months ago. I loved him to bits! I used to take him out for walks like that... but not too far because he would always wander around smelling things and slow me down A LOT! So I tend to hold him in my arms instead.

    That one looks well behaved, my one had a short attention span and would never stay put!

    Having owned 2 ferrets I can say I love them to death but I'm not sure I would ever own another one. Many in the US are very inbred and as a result one died of adrenal gland disease and the other died from lymphoma, both were only 2-3 years old. They were very sociable and fun as a pet, but it was just to sad to have them pass at such a young age.
