External meeting at a local coffee place. Most popular coffee places
in Tokyo are Starbucks and the Starbucks clone Excelsior Cafe. Have a
look at the logo on their page >

You can see that its round and kinds looks similar to Starbucks but
used to even more so when it was green.
Do Starbucks own the coffee market in your neck of the woods?

Here as well. One area they opened two Starbucks across the street from one another. =O

we only have a couple of starbucks in the whole country.
portugal has a loooong tradition as far as coffee goes, and we have a coffee selling cafe, restaurant, snack bar, etc everywhere, and i mean everywhere. cheap too.
most people that go to starbucks go there because it's supposed to be hip, and kind of a novelty. it's way to expensive for most people, and not really worth it for most of them.

there are lots of coffee shops and cafes here, including starbucks, yet i don't like coffee :/

Screw coffee; chai latte is the stuff.
カタイ-ガクセイ
Indeed!
We have Starbucks here, but I live in a town thats really big on supporting local business, so theres only one (the city literally wont let them open another, it took like 5 years for Walmart to convince them to let them open another store), but we have TONS of local coffee shops here, and most are amazing. Theres one down the street from my that actually makes their own chai lattes instead of that premade crap that they serve most places and it is a-maz-ing. Especially with a shot of espresso added. Mmmmm.
Now I want some chai...

Dunkin' Donuts is the dominant chain in New England, you can pretty much throw a rock and hit one, even in smaller towns like mine. There are a few Starbucks in my area, but mostly in larger towns, which also usually end up having more independent cafes.

There are Starbuck's in the city although personally I prefer going to Gloria Jeans however its spelled.

No Starbucks here, but their business model wouldn't work here anyways. Coffee shops here are more like restaurants that specialist in coffee. People here don't really grab coffee "on-the-go".
I love the taste of Starbucks though, at least I can buy their bags of coffee from the supermarket.

I used to have the Starbucks near my old campus as my usual haunt up until I got a job. Now I frequent the nearby mall which has a bevvy of my favourite coffee shops; UCC and Seattles Best in particular.

I guess that was before you came to the conclusion that Starbucks coffee is as weak as water ;)
yeah Starbucks is famous in my country too, lots of people usually do meetings at Starbucks. I like Starbucks, but only for sometimes to go there coz i have my own favorite place to hang out and grab a coffee too.

I love coffee shops and tried as many different ones as I could on my last trip. Went to Dotour, Excelsior, Tully's, Chococro and several no name brand stores around Tokyo. Nothing better than taking a break after walking around for a few hours in a nice cafe.
yup yup agree with ya
it's nice having a nice cup of coffee after long day of work ( in my case ) also >.<
Kanada has this store called Tim Hortons...
There's more Tim Hortons here then there are 7-11s in Taiwan. There's intersections where 2 corners have a Tim Hortons. It's a lot cheaper then Starbucks, but not as good.
Exploring worlds and ways of thought
We have Starbucks, and Caribou Coffee. But Dunkin Donuts coffee taste is best between them IMO. You know, just a regular cup coffee. No fancy pants stuff. And it's cheaper too.
Here the Gloria Jean's the most expensive coffee shop in Budapest. They aren't popular, so i think Starbucks doesn't have much chance here.

That being said, Starbucks is the coffee place in my area. There are a few no-name places, but Starbucks pretty much dominates the coffee business here.

If you come to Hawaii, you should go to Island Vintage Coffee at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping center. I believe it is the best coffee in the Island and by the number of Japanese tourists I see there every time I visit I think they would agree too. Beats that sour junk Starbucks calls coffee.

Yeah Starbucks is the major coffee place here. Most local coffee places can only compete based off of people who want coffee but think Starbucks (and other corporations) are evil. There is only one local coffee place that I like that has coffee that is better than Starbucks, but its really out of the way for me to go get it.

Yes. There's a Starbucks (or Peet's, which is owned by the same company) every 2 blocks.

In NYC, there used to be a Starbucks every two blocks. I always prefer the cheaper cup of joe from the breakfast carts though.
???Confused???
There's pretty much a Starbucks at every corner around here...

There are 3 Starbucks within walking distance of each other in one part of my town and about 5 other locations in town on top of that. At least, there were. Unless they got closed (last I saw they were all still there) but oddly enough the Starbucks website doesn't think they exist (denial?).
It's ridiculous how many stores they open in one area of a town. ><;

Yep.
Starbucks is pretty much dominant in our coffee cafe market here but of course there are much better options.
Here, people don't go to Starbucks to get gourmet coffee on the go but they go to Starbucks to just relax and chill. I'm surprised that for a tropical country -- people here loves to have a hot cup of overpriced coffee XDDD
Oh yeah Starbucks is dominant down where I'm at. In fact, my university (San Diego State University) has THREE Starbucks plus FOUR mini-coffee stops called Peabody's Coffee on its campus and all of them are about a 2-min walk apart.

We have a Starbucks practically on every block in Manhattan and they still manage to have a line out the door during the morning coffee run! Just about any place here sells coffee too but we are a bit lacking of coffee shops/chains other than Starbucks.
I hear Starbucks use to have lawsuits over some coffee chains having logos similar to the Starbucks logo. Starbucks generally wins and the other companies have to change their logo. Makes me study the logos every time I see a coffee shop with a circular logo with something slapped in the middle.

We live in one of only 4 prefectures in all Japan with NO Starbucks -- anywhere. No Excelsior either, although there are a couple of normal Doutor. There's a Tully's but it's just not quite the same (Tully's here in Japan split from the rest of the worldwide chain a couple of years back, and only kept the name, IIRC)... weak.
While there are a couple of local cafés that specialize in decent coffee, they're even more expensive than Starbucks: think Starbucks prices for a cup only about a third the size of what you'd normally get. The coffee's not horrid, but I always walk out feeling like I've been hopelessly ripped off.
Not a good situation for someone like me who has been hopelessly coffee-addicted for most of their life. I've got to drive ~70km over to the next prefecture to get decent coffee beans, or even order a drink without dealing with the counter-person's shock and concern ("Yes, I'm quite aware I just ordered something that has six shots of espresso in it. Stop looking at me like that...").
In short, I'd almost kill to get a real Starbucks here.
Student
Considering I work for Starbucks, I think they are pretty popular here. We do have quite a few other local chains here that compete quite well.
Nendoroid Hunter
Starbucks is the staple fancy coffe here. Has branches at least 2 to 4 blocks apart. But I prefer the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.
Techno Geek would be Jedi Knight
No Starbucks here at all, as far as coffee is concerned I tasted starbucks' one and it was not that good and was also a lot expensive, I'm talking of espresso coffee btw.
Sometimes I forget that outside Italy coffee is not only espresso.
a guy who cares (sort of...)
So far Starbucks opened 3 shops in Poland, they plan to open more but I don't really care since I don't drink coffee at all.

My brew is the best I've had. A close second/third is WaWa, or Royal Farms. None around here though....

We have a couple of Starbucks shops in our country, all of them in Prague if I'm not mistaken. There is 9 of them. One at the airport, a few in shopping centres, and a few in the center. Those in center profit mostly from foreign tourists.
The name Excelsior just sounds amazing. Is their coffee as amazing as it sounds?

There are a lot of Starbuck in the bigger cities but I don't like Starbucks. The stuff they serve is weak.
We got a cuba lounge here in Wolfsburg and they serve a good coffee :D

There are a few Starbucks around where I live but they have strong competition in the form of Costa Coffee. They recently printed an advert in the paper saying 'Sorry Starbucks but 70% of Britain said our coffee was better'. I am awaiting the retaliation ^^
Otaku ^^
Here in Singapore or Malaysia, kopitiam rulez! They serve coffee, tea, Milo, Horlick, bandung and many more with half boiled eggs and buttered toast. Yummy!!!
