This is the biggest plasma screen TV in the whole world - it's just in front of the escalator on the 4th floor of Yodobashi Camera in Akiba. At 103" (2.4m x 1.9m) it's absolutely HUGE!
...and so is the price: 5,600,000 yen! That's £40,000, or about US$60,000!
Mind you, it does have 6 video inputs, 4 HDMI ports ... and they'll give you a ¥3000 yen discount if you trade in your old TV (bargain!)
Running this baby will set you back ¥23,000 (US$260) in annual electricity bills, plus of course you'll have to pay to have a two metre hole knocked out of your living room wall. Or, just buy 4 of them and put a roof on top - and live in it!

You might be right, but the price card thing said it was the biggest plasma tv in the world - it might mean the biggest one in the world that is actually for sale to domestic users.

I've never seen that brand before, is it popular in Japan?

Ah never mind, I didn't realize it was Panasonic.
Mad scientist
How much power does one of those things consume?
Last time I went to a TV store I was surprised at the power usage. I searched around online and found TVs using as much as 1000W. Sure the picture on such a screen is better than most TVs, but considering we are told to turn off the lights as much as possible to reduce power usage. If I turn on every single lamb I own and only use lightbulbs (grade F efficiency) I would still be far from 1000W. Oh and putting one of those things on the same fuse as say the fridge and the toaster is no good. If the toaster and TV are on and the fridge starts, the start power usage spike from the fridge will kill the fuse because it's already loaded.

Just after posting I find something I should have included :P

Turns out that first HD TV was made in 1958, but the system didn't catch on.

Did anyone else's eyes almost immediately go slightly down and to the right when they looked at this picture?

Not until you mentioned it :P

You could get a cheaper, larger, and higher definition setup if you got a set of 6 1080p HD projectors and linked them to a single output through the new ATI 5870's Eyefinity mode. I would like to do that one day and project the screen onto my neighbor's wall or something :P

I think the smarter choice would be to gamble the 5million yen so you have 10million yen and buy 2!
Mad scientist
Imagine gambling wrong and you will end up having spend the money and no TV. Or are you betting on fixed games only?

Holy shit, that's is really a big one. Also doesn't plasma requires more energy to work?
Mad scientist
I think so, but I failed to figure out how much power this one specifically uses. Imagine somebody buys it and then the power supply to the building can't handle it :P
"Dad, I want to watch TV"
"Ok, I will turn off the lights, the fridge and the computer"
Alternatively you could get a generator and get a nice background noise for watching TV.

60 grand?! Well, I guess if you have a house that can hold it. An acquaintance had a TV that big in a small apartment. It was kinda stressful to watch at 3.5 meters away. lol ^^;

103 inches is almost too big...almost...I love my 60" screen...makes playing video games very fun...
http://otakuposts.blogspot.com/
103 inches. thats huge. 3000 yen discount seems funny. for anyone who can afford to buy it, 3000 will be like pocket change.
Mad scientist
Yeah that discount sounds like a joke. Reminds me of a printed commercial. It said something like:
The company behind it declared it to be a typo and gave a better discount ^^
still trying to figure it out...
