In a city like Tokyo it can be easy to forget that we're right by the sea. Although I live only about 20 minutes by car from Tokyo Bay, as I don't usually have a reason to go over that way I sometimes forget that all that water's there!

My office recently moved to near the Sumida River, near the point where it joins Tokyo Bay (not all that far from Tokyo Station). I often go for a walk along its grassy banks at lunchtime - in recent years the government's put a lot of work on making these places more attractive for people to relax in, and so now, when the weather's good, you'll find a lot of workers from local offices stretching out on the grass.

I guess these kind of changes are being made in many big cities around the world - how about where you live?
