Taiko

Snapped earlier on today at the shotengai. 3 girls drum away on their
Taiko at the front with 2 lads at the back.
During the Summer and Winter, on special days, one would come across
these Taiko drummers near a shotengai. Fascinating to watch.
The closest I've come to play a Taiko is Taiko no Tatsujin. Not
blindfolded though like the chap below.

I don't know a whole lot about this stuff yet but it I do find it Fascinating. I really like the Japanese drums. I have a CD with some Japanese dummin on it. It's fun to listen to.
That guy's Impressive in that video! I guess some people are just natural at things.

I've watched some nice presentations from brazilian groups...
    http://xspblog.com/2008/11/19/taiiku-no-hi-and-wakaba-matsuri-wakaba-taiko/

But like Danny, my personal experience limits to playing a bit with Taiko no Tatsujin. xD
I also watched a presentation from a japanese taiko group that came to Brazil... can't quite remember the name, but it was awesome and very different too, mixing modern pop culture with the traditional drums...

A grad student at my college started up a taiko group, and I quite happily joined! Having only Taiko no Tatsujin experience, I'll have to say that the real thing is much more physical.
I'm very much looking forward to continuing to play throughout my time at college, it's a great workout and the other people who come are very fun to play with.

Love taiko, I've seen groups play them quite a few times at conventions, Japan tourism events etc. I'd love to learn it myself.

working to pay for figures etc.

I was in Tokyo the other day, outside the National Museum in Ueno Park there was a different group of drummers - the sound was like shockwaves! They were brilliant. I love Taiko drumming.

I love Taiko! The sound is so booming and exciting. I've always wanted to learn and would join a group right away if I could only find one... )=

I love Taiko drum performances! Back in high school they had a group come in that was quite phenomenal.
