Kansai airport in Osaka is now welcoming foreigners to Japan with not only a fingerprinting system but also a bunch of cosplayers. The cosplayers include maids and the standard anime characters. An organizer says that they want to monetize from foreigners using Osaka's otaku culture.

Osaka? That's a bit far away from Tokyo if I recall :S, if I got to Japan I'll be getting off in Haneda or Narita which is closer to the city of Tokyo. So why don't they do this also in there ^^

Osaka is a little cheaper than Tokyo - the price of a (small) hotel room can be as little as $20 a night!! Try that in Tokyo. Also, Osaka is a little more easy to navigate, is has prettier parks, WAY better food, and last but not least really outgoing people(!)

Kansai people are the bomb....

So... Right when I get off the plane... BAM! Everywhere, cosplayers. That sounds... rather akward for those who don't know what is happening, but rather is nice to take pictures with.

Indeed, Otaku culture is slated to become the leading culture in Japan.

Are these inside the customs zone, or inside the main airport? Might be worthwhile just to travel across to Osaka for a peek. ^_^

Wow I guess I have to watch out for both maids and immigration. And how does fingerprinting stop terrorists again? They need all your prints instead of just one and photos don't help if you change your image. Oh well, looking at some scantily clad maids makes things all better!
