Kansai airport in Osaka is now welcoming foreigners to Japan with not only a fingerprinting system but also a bunch of cosplayers. The cosplayers include maids and the standard anime characters. An organizer says that they want to monetize from foreigners using Osaka's otaku culture. Via Mainichi and Asahi.
Guessing Narita airport is suddenly gonna get alot quieter.

Sounds like some foreigners are in for a surprise!
Osaka? That's a bit far away from Tokyo if I recall :S, if I got to Japan I'll be getting off in Haneda or Narita which is closer to the city of Tokyo. So why don't they do this also in there ^^
Osaka is a little cheaper than Tokyo - the price of a (small) hotel room can be as little as $20 a night!! Try that in Tokyo. Also, Osaka is a little more easy to navigate, is has prettier parks, WAY better food, and last but not least really outgoing people(!) Kansai people are the bomb....
ahhhhh i landed there last year damn it!! i guess i was too early. now i want to go again
So... Right when I get off the plane... BAM! Everywhere, cosplayers. That sounds... rather akward for those who don't know what is happening, but rather is nice to take pictures with.
LOL, do they cosplay as eroge characters with their skimpy outfits? If there are, I'm heading there right now!
Japan awesomeness can't be measured.
i can spell my name!
I might be one happy gaijin two years from now when I'm there.
oh really... Me and my friends once thought that putting a Maid Cafe in an Airport might draw a crowd...
that's a very nice welcome
i approve. ('~')
damn!!! u 4 real? WANNA GO, WANNA GO!
and that's why i love japan soooo much~ hehe
Oh nice...on one hand it's creating jobs and overseas otaku and tourist are getting a spectacular welcome...two birds with one stone...
More acceptance of the otaku culture?
Indeed, Otaku culture is slated to become the leading culture in Japan. As shown by this article, http://clast.diamondagency.jp/en/?p=97
Thanks for the reading. Btw, the Nekomimi mode video (link provided in the article) is truly catchy, cute and funny. ^^
uh, benjamin, u got other japan news website? in english of course if u did, mind sharing it to me/ us?
It's not really "another" news website really, since it's featured here in the partner feeds section ^^ It's http://www.japanprobe.com/ ^_^
thanks ^^
I'll be there. I'll find where that yoroshiku really means. MOE!!
When is the best time to visit Osaka? I'm so saving monies NAO!!
gives me an idea of job occupation in japan. will they hire a gaijin as a welcoming cosplayer? hope they pay good enough and i might just apply
I can see myself in those photos.
Dangit! Why didn't they do this back in October!? ARGH!!!!
Last October in Narita I didn't see any Cosplayers, but I did see a customs man rummaging around my suitcase looking for Playboy magazines.
Hope this lasts for awhile, cuz in August, I might go to Japan. I'd LOVE to be greeted by cosplaying Japanese girls.
arrrrggghhhhh!!! i just went there 2 months earlier! talk about the timing
ARGH, why is my flight next week booked through Narita??? v_v Are these inside the customs zone, or inside the main airport? Might be worthwhile just to travel across to Osaka for a peek. ^_^
Wow I guess I have to watch out for both maids and immigration. And how does fingerprinting stop terrorists again? They need all your prints instead of just one and photos don't help if you change your image. Oh well, looking at some scantily clad maids makes things all better!
