Very Nice bag! Awesome review Danny!
Putting her in a bag like this is oddly cute!
Heh heh, nice idea Danny!
I like this image here. XD
YOINK!!! Gonna use this pic for an inspirational reference... ^^
City scenery is good and all, but some nature would be great, I think.
Wow I am truly impressed and very inspired. :) I love all that you said in the end and I plan to do things to take charge and exit this comfort level I'm in. You are AWESOME!
Unfortunately, HRP-4C Miim project has been closed.
It's very hard for the government project to keep developing such a girl robot after Fukushima disaster.
So, now they focus on the real work.
Real life size robot is very difficult to keep the position anyhow, so, the researchers are using a big metal frame and Hoisting tools to keep the robot still standing when the power is off.
120cm size robot like ASIMO, pepper and Smart Doll Plus is rather easier to handle, however, still very dangerous when they fall down.
Heavy weight can cause more damage to servo gears than 1/3.
I have Robi (34cm, 1kg) on my desk, but still there's a risk to break the gears when he falls down. (Robi has a daisy chain servo system with rotation angle feed back, but no stabilising algorithm i.e. 3 axis gyro sensors on the PC board are not used. He changes his postures by just programed still data all the time, so he falls down very easily.)
I was able to see that Rosen Gepetto vid, and that linked to a few others that he posted
... he has the upper body movements to a point where they are pretty nice
... in all the vids I watched the feet movements are the problem ... the dolls do not move their feet very much, and do not appear to lift their feet off the floor
... in one vid it looked like he had put some sort of soft cushion-like material on the bottom of their shoes that would allow the doll movement to flex a bit more since the cushioning material would "give" in the direction the flex was being done
I was not trying to say that Marika was a 1960's toy ... just that her walking movement looked like that
sadly I am not able to read Japanese ... so I was not able to understand the link you sent me about the technical details for Marika, and the link about the stability control system ...... sorry
it IS getting interesting, to see what is being done with making doll size robots ... and it will be very interesting to see what finally makes it on to the market as a commercially available doll/robot

This caught my eye at the Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco today...
Good for you bud, congrats on your success.
I am soooo waiting for Chitose to be made into a SmartDoll! <3 I really love her lab coat outfit too. =)
Are there any official retailers or places where we can buy Mirai in Tokyo (or elsewhere in Japan?). Shipping/customs to the UK seems to be fairly high from what other collectors have said, so I was hoping I could find somewhere that sells her when I next visit Japan ^_^;
WOOO LOLI YUSSSHHH
Hi Danny, I'm your website follower sice years ago!! You are great!
Regards from Spain!
PD: When will we see Tokyo Trooper again ? :D
For Walking stability of small robot, please refer to the following link.
This robustness of control system might be the best for this size...
Rosen Gepetto is still trying to make smaller feet, but it needs more sophisticated contorol system like above.
Marika is dragging more in that sense.
Oh ok thx
>I was not able to view the "Dancing doll by Rosen Gepetto" video...
Probably, due to full HD playability.
Try this one below, this is very older video like 4 years ago.
Now she has thinner legs than this.
Regarding Marika, her legs have 12-degree-of-freedom control with RC servo and PIC program.
So, she is not such a 1960's toy...
More technical details,
Mr. Choo, how does one purchase a doll? Planning to get one for my daughter. I'm based in the Philippines.
@delicious_kai Mirai wasn't in an anime. o-o; If I'm not mistaken. "... Mirai Suenaga skipped the anime and went directly to live action in the drama..."
@victoria_matraire It's Mirai Suenaga.
I disagree with you about Marika walking ... after carefull watching the video clip ... I could see that she uses the "wobble" style of locomotion that small wind-up toys have used, at least wind-up toys sold in America as far back as the 1960's (I remember seeing toys like that when I was a child, yes I was a child back in the 1950's and 60's) ... that style of locomotion requires oversized feet, which Marika has, her shoes are way out of proportion for her body size, and looking closely at her legs as she was "walking", her legs appeared to be locked into a bent knee position so that it would sort of look like she was walking
... I do agree with you that it is a very impressive achievement considering it was done by an ordinary person as a hobby :-)
I was not able to view the "Dancing doll by Rosen Gepetto" video as it wanted a video player I do not want to download onto my computer
I saw a vid of the SE-01 doll
and that was interesting ... as for her "dancing" ... Miim was doing better than that in a vid I saw a couple of years ago ... the SE-01 was able to spread her legs and then bring them back together again by sliding her oversized feet on the surface she was on ... her other movements were very similar to what Danny showed in an early vid of the 60cm robotic smart doll he was working on ... (and Marika's arm and body movements were also similar)
Both the SE-01 and Marika used over-sized feet ... this allows the developer/maker to avoid having to use sophisticated tech for maintaining balance ... which is why the toy bots like the Palmi you posted a link for, are so popular ... and so much easier to make in a cost range that consumers will be willing to pay for
... and I suspect why Fuji Soft has not made a doll version of their Palmi bot
Using an obvious "robot" body structure like Palmi does ... allows the producer to keep costs low by not having to worry about the same size and shape constraints for servo mechanisms that you have to take into consideration when you design a human shaped doll robot ... and it allows the producer to use oversized feet for the bot ... instead of more expensive tech to keep the doll stabilized and upright
Danny had gotten as far as the arm, head, and body movements for his 60cm design ... but I suspect he hit a brick wall cost wise when he tried to come up with a way for her to be able to walk ... at least if he wanted her to be able to walk in a way that at least looked a little bit like a human
... the cost of getting tiny servo's custom built was prohibitive
Hopefully, with his new choice, a 120cm design ... will help him get the design done and be able to keep it in a price range that us ordinary people can afford
I want to see if the information I got from the Marike vid is correct about her A.I. software ... I want to look at it closer before I comment on it
How much you sell the doll???
Marika walks and alreasy has AI and speech function to answer by reading Internat information.
To be surprised, an ordinary Japanese lady made Marika as jsut her hobby.
Palmi by DMM.make ROBOTS
Palmi is a consumer model from Fuji Soft, and has more AI functions like a face recognition.
Unfortunately, he or she? looks like just a classical ROBOT.
So, let Fuji Soft make a doll versiom!
This close up is really nicely taken...
Hey, I have a Mirai smart doll and I was a bit confused about purchasing other clothes for her ^^. I would be happy to buy clothes for Mirai. I just need to clarify how to :). Thanks!
thanks for sharing your very inspiring journey
was really enlightened while reading the revenge portion, recently I was really blinded by revenge and was planning my work life around it. Guess its my good luck to suddenly have the urge for some blog reading, i'll focus on my goals and outshine the bunch of backstabbers from now on :)
p/s, when is the ETA for smart doll Eiji?
it must b very late....the road is empty
Danny has not said anything about what this version is supposed to be able to do
I have asked ... as have others ... but Danny hasnt said anything in reply to those questions
no ... it was getting too expensive to do that ... that was the first thing he had tried ... he was going to make a robotic version of the 60cm bjd he has been selling ... but it was getting too expensive to make a robotic version that size, which is why he went to the size he is working with now
Antihistamines on the ready?
Dogs because I bond faster with them. Dogs are closer to humans in tgat sense while cats don't care. They're both great but if I want to feel like I have a friend that cares about me then dogs are the way to go!!!!!

I love love love your IG...it's making me miss Japan so much! I'm coming back over at the end of the year & was wondering if you might be able to recommend any info on how I could organise to stay with a host family & experience authentic Japan for a week or two?! Thanks Danny

The Galactic Empire is already experimenting on Earth in order to prepare for an invasion! hahaha jk jk... but yup see you next year
See you next year danny, great panel... Hahah learned that I need a watch and I have to manage my pie a little better. I will be staffing next year as well, hope to see you there!
Hopefully when the rebuild the structure, they keep the theme or bring it back :O
Santa Monica <3, I bike there from downtown once in a while, and love how the LA marathon ends there now! Great place to visit is actually downtown why? Because there are many different neighborhood that surrounds it. You said you went to Chinatown before, couple blocks there is Jtown, El Pueblo, art district, victor heights, fashion district, and etc. Lots of museum and restaurants. You should definitely visit the small museums in Little Tokyo and El Pebbly ( little gems in the city) For nature you can visit Eaton Canyon, Griffin Park trail, Santa Monica Mountain Waterfall, and Angles National Forest ( best hiking trail, and also they have horseback riding and shooting range near by. There are so many attraction in Los Angeles, the ones I mention above is merely the appetizers! Also should hit up Malibu beach, Hollywood ( especially Hollywood walk)and also newport and venice beach!
Im so jelly! Can't wait to see your new moves Danny!
forgot to mention the helmet reminds me of the hero's helmet from Zetman, and HAZE. I love the visor thingy. One of my original character has a similar feature of that helmet. :D
The silhouette design is simply amazing!
Can you say Jelly, cause I'm so jelly. Looks great!
Truly inspirational, you are amazing person! Moar please, every time I read these articles, I become moar is inspired. Lets see what I can do in college!
I will be attending UCLA this fall and I will be pursuing a degree in business economic and film, and minor in art. I am so stoke. Thanks Danny for the boat story. From what I see, UCLA is an A+ =)
4 realz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lets go !!!!!!
those collector edition boxes always get me every time...
That's a big problem that pledge the industry. Fansub is a problem to the industry. The company should get together to stream their anime, and have commercial in it. That's where they can make back some money. Other than that it will be a big issue
I agree, it doesn't make sense that the 3rd largest economy in the world and front runner in disaster prevention is going to let a "Chernobyl" happen. Rumors and speculation hurts everyone... People are ignorant and blinded by the press just like the past..
you forgot that you get unlimited refill of soda =D
I know what you mean... The sushi, just isn't refresh enough
I love Costco and all of its glory! When I buy pizza, Costco Pizza is the way to go, buy it bring it home, toast it, and eat it! In addition, the free-sample is the best!
what monitor is that?
